Hi there, my first post (hopefully of many) here :)

I may run this guy as Brother Corbulo seeing as he's quite fancy...

I should mention that I blatantly stole the idea for the conversion from SincaiN, whose blog is well worth checking out...

Cheers!

That's the best miniature I've seen in ages. It's magnificently done.

How did you paint that gold? That muted colour reminds me of ancient items you would find in a museum, and it complements the other colours beautifully without drawing attention to itself.

Lovin' the Unforgiven-ness of this model, he looks far more like a GotC than any silly Space Vampire :P

Fantastic paint job and conversion, the eyes are spooky good :tu:

One thing though... the red robes look exactly like the PA and Jump pack, I'm sure a painter of your calibre could add a little texture and/or a slightly different shade to make the robes look a little more like cloth. Sorry for the nit-pick, your work is sublime.

This marine encorporates everything I love about Space Marines and painting styles in general - it's pretty grim-dark with all the washes but is bright enough to be vibrant and eye-catching. Those Barded/Hooded helmets are my favorite on any single-character model - wonderful work!

Wow thanks for all the comments guys! It's nice to get such a positive response being new n' all. I've been practicing on my Blood Angels for a while and finally have the scheme and techniques down that I'm happy with. I have finished a few other units so I might post a little blog here somewhere and update it each time I finish something...

I discovered a nice little product called Rub n' Buff - it's not a paint, more of a metallic paste that you can sort of drybrush on. So the gold was really very simple:

1) Tin Bitz basecoat

2) Nuln Oil wash

3) Drybrush Rub n' Buff gold

4) Drybrush a tiny bit of Rub n' Buff silver

5) Sepia wash to seal

NOTE: You have to be very careful drybrushing the Rub n' Buff - the flecks do tend to flick where you don't want them sometimes, so it's best to use a brush with bristles that aren't too coarse.

I had the exact same thought while I was painting it... I was going to give the robes a brown wash but I was worried it wouldn't come out how I wanted so chickened out! You are right but until I figure out a way to make some distinction he'll stay as he is. Plus I have a LOT more units to paint ;)
