Bjorn Firewalker
I think you meant to say “Sons of DORN”... Lol damn autocorrectIt changed "bolter" into "bolster", "vox" into "box", and Emperor knows how many other mistakes, before I figured out how to disable the thrice-damned thing. Majkhel
Nice Fist! As always some nice choice of colors. Proves that there is always choice and variety available even for the most iconic chapters with long-set color schemes. I like the white paint-wear mixing in with the highlights. And deepening of the yellow with this particular orange is beautiful. I just regret there isn't more of it (the orange) on the model. The pale blue eye lenses are not a common choice, but they tie well with the purple aquila and shoulder guard trim. Really like it :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282574-luthers-wosp-works-of-slow-progress/page/37/#findComment-5415762 Share on other sites
LutherMax
Thanks for the comments! Taken a quick break from painting guides to add a model to my own Raptors army – Leiutentant Cerrin. The base model is the event exclusive lieutenant and the conversion was inspired by the awesome kitbash by k03rnl. The cloak was sculpted for me by Dawn Crusade. Kolgrim DeathHowl
Holy crap man now that is cool! I love the glow effect of the power sword on the ground that's a nice touch. Excellent work! Majkhel
Excellent work on the face! The eyes, the shades on the jaw, the lovely eagle tattoo! I definitely feel my eyes drawn to it (the face) despite it's being partly hidden behind the collar and cloak. I also like how the very muted tones on the cloak discreetly pick up the green of the armor. I must say however that the OSL from the sword on the ground seems out of place. How can the ground be lighted so much while the armor of the greave and foot are totally unaffected despite being much closer to the source of light? ;) LutherMax 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282574-luthers-wosp-works-of-slow-progress/page/37/#findComment-5420484 Share on other sites
Kolgrim DeathHowl
Looking at it again, I just noticed is that a tattoo on the side of his head? LutherMax
Thanks for the comments! I must say however that the OSL from the sword on the ground seems out of place. How can the ground be lighted so much while the armor of the greave and foot are totally unaffected despite being much closer to the source of light? It's a valid point... the thing is the flat face of the blade (the large area that would be giving off the most light) is directly opposite that patch of ground. The greave is opposite the sharp edge and is partially blocked by the guard. On reflection I do think a bit of light cast on the lower leg and foot would be appropriate. The thing is, that blue was actually just overspray from when I airbrushed the sword, which is the very first thing I did on the model. I just quite liked it as natural light and decided to leave it and paint around it Looking at it again, I just noticed is that a tattoo on the side of his head? It is! Kolgrim DeathHowl
That's really well painted my hands are way to shaky to do that, but I totally noticed what it was. Was like holy crap that's a nice touch! Dwango
Wow. Just had a quick look over the last 2 pages. Those models are sublime! Will be looking through more when I get chance. I'm always envious of someone who can paint a good face and that lieutenants face is top notch. A custodes head if I'm not mistaken? Spectral Bob
Fantastic work. Your skills with a brush are excellent! I do have one question, from a modeling standpoint; why is his pistol on the same side as his sword arm? Seems a bit odd... Chaplain Mollusc
@Spectral Bob, it looks like it's set up for cross-draw, with the butt forward. Son of Sacrifice
The figure comes modelled like that. LutherMax
Thanks Kolgrim! First completed model of 2020 – a Phobos Lieutenant for my Raptors army. This is another model from the Shadowspear box that I’m slowly (but happily!) working my way through. I did a very minor conversion to swap the head with the captain from the same box. Majkhel
Great weathering! And I really like the rich colour of the knives' scabbards (a tint of red?) The head however is from the Primaris Intercessors kit. Phobos Captain's originally has a beard :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282574-luthers-wosp-works-of-slow-progress/page/37/#findComment-5458110 Share on other sites

Phobos Captain's originally has a beard Yes I used red-browns on the scabbard and yellow-browns on the straps for a bit of contrast :) And you are correct about the head, well spotted! I got confused because I used this guy's original head on the Captain, not the other way around. Just goes to show how long has passed between building the model and painting him :D Majkhel 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282574-luthers-wosp-works-of-slow-progress/page/37/#findComment-5458166 Share on other sites
