Emperor's Furor
What do you think, do you think only the elite should of turned red, like the Serrated Suns but the rest of the Legion should of remained Grey? I can see the symbolic reasoning behind it, but from a collecting point of view it's a pain in the ass when you want a Word Bearers army but it changes significantly over the course of the heresy up to the point they are all red by the Siege. I would of preferred it if they'd kept the standard colour and then changed entirely to red after the siege, like how the Black Legion dropped the pea green in favour of black. Dumah
There's nothing to say that there aren't some chapters that may have deviated, either initially or in the millennia since. I rather like the idea of mixing the two; predominantly gray but with more red the higher up the pecking order would look great. Scribe
Yeah I was going to do it by MK. MKII/III, Grey, MKIV, Red. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282651-should-the-word-bearers-stayed-grey/#findComment-3509810 Share on other sites
Danny Cyanide
It seems to me they went full red after the massacre, as they are all red by Calth. When I get to my Word Bearers I will be doing mostly red, and a couple of Grey tac squads, since it seems that Istvaan V was the only time they were mixed colours. Emperor's Furor
I'm thinking of doing everything in grey, so it's pre-monarchia, including Erebus and Lorgar. Then again if I want to add other things later on like the Gal Vorbak it maybe weird.. The Word Bearers are zealots. For them, the grey is a color of a false allegiance, a lie. They are Bearers of not just the Word, but the True Word. And the Gal Vorbak are the physical manifestation of that word. So after Istvaan V, we start seeing red explode across the Legion because it is now time to cast off the false allegiances and raise the True colors, the Red of Freedom. However, nothing says "Every single last Word Bearer in existence painted their armor red". Or even the same way. After all, there are the Sanctified who had a variant scheme before the Siege of Vraks. I posted the idea a while back, and I think somebody already claimed it, but somewhere out there could be a Chapter who continue to wear the stone grey, until they can paint it red with the blood of the dying Emperor as He truly fades. Wade Garrett
My only gripe with the Red is that it makes our Legion hard to distinguish from the Space Loony Berserkers, Space Emo Vampires, and Space Pirates. Emperor's Furor
Yeah that's why I prefer the grey, it makes them different to everyone, the only legion that comes close is the space wolves and even then it really depends on the shade of grey you do, this is what I did with my trial model, after looking at the photos from collected visions and massacre. http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/6950/jw41.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282651-should-the-word-bearers-stayed-grey/#findComment-3510018 Share on other sites
Týr
I think if they all stayed grey the Heresy could have been prevented. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282651-should-the-word-bearers-stayed-grey/#findComment-3510024 Share on other sites
