New Curze Artwork

Emperor's Furor

Curze's hair is repeatedly described as being in filthy, greasy dreadlocks that are only washed in the blood of his victims. That guy seems to have stepped out of a commercial for volumizing conditioner.

Agreed. I'm also disappointed with the face; not nearly gaunt enough. It's described so frequently as "corpselike" that I expect to see hollow cheeks and deeply sunken eye sockets. Maybe it would cut it for the early days... but even then, not haunting enough (see what I did there?). The armor and jump pack are cool, at least.

It's a pretty good picture, although a few more elements similar to the artwork in Massacre and it'd be perfect.

Also, on a semi-related note, Curze has gotten masses of official artwork this year, it would seem. At least, compared to what he had before...Which was nothing?

Perhaps this is how mortals see Kurze. Remember, he's a psychopath and kind of damaged goods, but he's still a Primarch, which are said to have an aura that kind of renders people shocked (with the exception of Angron, but I think this is due to the Nails).

Does Kurze use a jump pack though? I actually thought the picture looked more like Corrax until I noticed the batlike symbol on the chestplate.

I think most of you are correct: he looks way too much like a hollywood pretty boy with pale skin, and not "terrifying" or "corpselike" enough. Then again he also reminds me of Johnny Depp in Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber, which does come off as frightening and psychotic crazy.

Also those gauntlets don't look like Lightning Claws to me. And why is he holding a feather?

At the Battle of Istvaan V, he did use a Jump Pack. He doesn't always have it, nor the lightning claws as he carried a sword(and a fork) in Vulkan Lives.

There is also a matter of when this picture took place. At Istvaan V, according to The First Heretic, he actually looked quite noble in bearing. This is reinforced in Vulkan Lives when Vulkan first mistakes him for Guilliman immediately following the Massacre. Two years down the road during the Thramas Crusade, we start seeing his physical appearance decay as he was described as thin and ghastly(Savage Weapons). And it was during the battle at Macragge one year later that he is described as lookibg like a walking corpse.

As for the feather, one of the posts up on the blog mentioned it being held in remembrance IIRC.

My personal opinion is that this was Curze immediately(generally speaking) following the Drop Site Massacre, but before he begins Vulkan Lives.

"Konrad Curze had once, perhaps, been a majestic creature. Everything in his bearing spoke of a regal nature now shattered, all grace and grandeur cast aside to leave a warrior prince skinned down to a core of lethal, cadaverous nobility."

The First Heretic, page 417

How one reads the above and arrives at the mental image of Mr. Metrosexual up there is a bit beyond me.

As for Vulkan mistaking Konrad for Guilliman in Vulkan Lives...this is a Vulkan that was so mentally and physically wrung out he could be dropped by being jabbed in the chest with a fork.

It would not surprise me if, in that condition, he was having lengthy chats with random pieces of furniture thinking they were Dorn, Russ, and Sanguinus.

Yeah...I don't really like this image of Curze either. I've always thought Slain69's version is the best rendition of crazy Curze, but this really does look like some wacko MJ post-pop-star-era contemplative goth emo dude...

I don't exactly recall saying that the description fit the picture, just that the description was there.

And actually, Vulkan had mistaken Curze for Guilliman literally immediately following Istvaan V. He hadn't been physically and mentally strung out yet. Although he did just take an artillery strike to the head.
