Terrain: Twin Hydroelectric Power St.Buildings Complete

Hi,

 

finally I urged myself into building terrain once more!  I dislike the "skull-and-bone-ladden" buildings GW offers us (although some builings have style, I admit). In case of bunkers, industrial facilities etc. I think styrofoam is perfect.

 

Passing time I collected a lot of similar things concerning styrofoam and now I started this:

 

...and this has nothing to do that I become a father of twins, soon:-)! No, this idea is considerably older. Creating similar buildings can be positive on a battlefield because it gives you the idea of large structures of things. So I decided to start this hydroelectric power plant with these materials:

The big styrofoam part I used as a wall cutting out the base. The styrofoam in the background I used to create the entrance building of the plant. The pipes in the right backround shall be the chimneys later.

One can see the basic structure of the buildings I am targeting (at least I hope;-)

As I said I am in a fortunate position to create 2 similar "twin-buildings" because I collected all basic parts beforehand......

Once the basements were ready I had to attach the first detailings

The is a gap running all along the styrofoam-main-building-complex for it was used to protect glass (I think), so I bent some metal strips and attached it unto the gab. Further I used doors by microarts.com The tube with the former glue in it shall be the chimneys later

Of course I did ithis to all two plants so that the remain twin.buildings- In later steps I will alter them slightly.

Nice stuff, LordOrd. Any chance we could get larger photos? Wanna see dem details.

 

It's also cool to see 40K terrain that's not a shrine, a fortress, or a city that's conspicuously branded with the iconography of specific groups and factions. 40K seems way more real when it has some basic civil infrastructure to it.

You are doing good. Keep in mind you have tons of room for layers of detail and paint that will set it way apart from anything that you can buy at the store.

Now before I can attach the final details, I have to spray sand/mud all over my buildings. At least for me this is a very intimate moment for the mud/sand is from my home-soil. Even if I would sell my buildings the owner would possess the very soil of my home, when I send it. So the pictures might be ordinary but for me someting special.

Debris? Yes why not. But people are humans , yes humans, WE ALL ARE. Tthis is what GW forgets so easily. ..Instead of dfebris I add human traces. Aren´t we humans? Even in 40.0000 in the future?

sometimes you just have to have great luck! Cleaning up a storage I found two pins with a "G" on them. Two similar ones as are my two power stations! Of course I attached them as the company icon on both main-buildings:-) The other things you see a syringe-protecting-caps from a pharmacy.

The caps are ideal to play the role of watertanks which I added in both the forecourts togehther with some other rubbish.
