LordOrdGermany
Hi, finally I urged myself into building terrain once more! I dislike the "skull-and-bone-ladden" buildings GW offers us (although some builings have style, I admit). In case of bunkers, industrial facilities etc. I think styrofoam is perfect. Passing time I collected a lot of similar things concerning styrofoam and now I started this: ...and this has nothing to do that I become a father of twins, soon:-)! No, this idea is considerably older. Creating similar buildings can be positive on a battlefield because it gives you the idea of large structures of things. So I decided to start this hydroelectric power plant with these materials: http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4321.JPG The big styrofoam part I used as a wall cutting out the base. The styrofoam in the background I used to create the entrance building of the plant. The pipes in the right backround shall be the chimneys later. http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4320.JPG One can see the basic structure of the buildings I am targeting (at least I hope;-) http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4322.JPG As I said I am in a fortunate position to create 2 similar "twin-buildings" because I collected all basic parts beforehand...... ...to be continued...C&C welcome Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282660-terrain-twin-hydroelectric-power-stbuildings-complete/ Share on other sites

LordOrdGermany
Once the basements were ready I had to attach the first detailings http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4328.JPG The is a gap running all along the styrofoam-main-building-complex for it was used to protect glass (I think), so I bent some metal strips and attached it unto the gab. Further I used doors by microarts.com The tube with the former glue in it shall be the chimneys later http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4329.JPG http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4330.JPG Of course I did ithis to all two plants so that the remain twin.buildings- In later steps I will alter them slightly. http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4333.JPGhttp://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4335.JPG ..to be continued C&C welcome Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282660-terrain-twin-hydroelectric-power-stbuildings-complete/#findComment-3512138 Share on other sites

LordOrdGermany
Yes and here we get into painting. First steps http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4343.JPGThese are parts of the plastic frame "Manticore Missiles Lanuchers" come in. They can be very useful to be part of builidngs outer scaffolding http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4344.JPGI brushed the whole bulidngs with light-grey http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4346.JPGI painted the chimneys with boltgun-metal ..to be continued... LordOrdGermany
Hi, your comments are so great! Thanks you so much. LordOrdGermany
Now the real painting starts http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4376.JPG http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4400.JPG The chimneys The buildings are twins but still I want to differ them by adding to them different extra components Buidling 1 http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4378.JPG http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4380.JPG A vehicle I bought at a jumble sale and modified it accordingly Building 2 http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4379.JPG A gardener was eager to use its free-time ;-) http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4401.JPGhttp://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4402.JPG ...to be continued.....with the final deatils on the both of them:-) C&C welcome Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282660-terrain-twin-hydroelectric-power-stbuildings-complete/#findComment-3533943 Share on other sites
Lexington
Nice stuff, LordOrd. Any chance we could get larger photos? Wanna see dem details. It's also cool to see 40K terrain that's not a shrine, a fortress, or a city that's conspicuously branded with the iconography of specific groups and factions. 40K seems way more real when it has some basic civil infrastructure to it. LordOrdGermany
@Lexigton We have much in common:-) Not only that we both love the Aurora Chapter but also our opinion that self-made 40k terrain is better than the iconography-ladden stuff by GW:-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282660-terrain-twin-hydroelectric-power-stbuildings-complete/#findComment-3534178 Share on other sites

Lykos
You are doing good. Keep in mind you have tons of room for layers of detail and paint that will set it way apart from anything that you can buy at the store. LordOrdGermany
Hi Lykos, DeathSoectresrg7, Lexington and of course alle who like my project; Now before I can attach the final details, I have to spray sand/mud all over my buildings. At least for me this is a very intimate moment for the mud/sand is from my home-soil. Even if I would sell my buildings the owner would possess the very soil of my home, when I send it. So the pictures might be ordinary but for me someting special. http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4413.JPG Kind of a mess:-) as you can see......but from my garden http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4414.JPG Now I have to wait unitil the glue is becoming hard http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4415.JPG Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282660-terrain-twin-hydroelectric-power-stbuildings-complete/#findComment-3535011 Share on other sites

LordOrdGermany
@deathspectresgr7 Debris? Yes why not. But people are humans , yes humans, WE ALL ARE. Tthis is what GW forgets so easily. ..Instead of dfebris I add human traces. Aren´t we humans? Even in 40.0000 in the future? LordOrdGermany
The first deatails are to be attached. I am a smoker. So I find it appropriate to have smoking areas:-) http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4418.JPG I made the signs out of an EUR-penny .... http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4419.JPG and made it look accordingly http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4420.JPG The platform on which the smoker smoke http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4422.JPG I tried to simulate the end of the cigarettes with paper stripes. Here you see the sign and platform attached to one of my Twin Hydrolelectric facilieties. http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4423.JPG ..and here to the second .....................to be continued of course:-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282660-terrain-twin-hydroelectric-power-stbuildings-complete/#findComment-3539654 Share on other sites

LordOrdGermany
Hi, in order to make my builings more realistic I added bulletin boards...and that is how ist went: 1.) Creating them http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4431.JPG http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4432.JPG 2.) Ageing them http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4433.JPG 3.) Filling them:-) http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4434.JPG .....attaching them-->to be continued:-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282660-terrain-twin-hydroelectric-power-stbuildings-complete/#findComment-3546494 Share on other sites

LordOrdGermany
Hi, http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4440.JPG sometimes you just have to have great luck! Cleaning up a storage I found two pins with a "G" on them. Two similar ones as are my two power stations! Of course I attached them as the company icon on both main-buildings:-) The other things you see a syringe-protecting-caps from a pharmacy. http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4439.JPG The caps are ideal to play the role of watertanks which I added in both the forecourts togehther with some other rubbish. http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4442.JPGhttp://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4448.JPG And @deathspectre: of course your bulletin boards in close-up:-) http://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4445.JPGhttp://www.lordordsrealm.de/mediac/400_0/media/DIR_27480/IMG_4444.JPG Attention-->the project is not finished yet!
