Excubitor
Isn't the Tale until April? You have plenty of time! I'll likely be a few days late with my vow, been really ill over Christmas (spending most of my Christmas holiday in bed/on a couch sucks! But the Cricket helped ) On the other hand, should be able to get an update soon. And will be getting some of the new effects paints and some more bits to finish things up properly. Been doing a little bit of experimenting with weathering/battle damage on a few old marines, and once the new paints get in I'll finalise what I want to do. As for January, I think I'll do my scouts - about time one of my best performing units got some paint on it! Poor things have been unpainted/undercoated far too long for the hard work they do! Corsair
I'm posting this as tabletop quality just in case, as I'm currently on capped internet and just back from a short notice mini holiday in the Hunter Valley. They need a fair bit more work and I'm planning to hopefully finish them to my own standard in the next day or two with accompanying good photos and fluff, but unfortunately I've got a couple more impending writing deadlines that are taking precedence at the moment (and making me :cuss bricks haha) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282734-a-tale-of-18-hobbyists-wip-project-thread/page/20/#findComment-3556876 Share on other sites

LongGone
Brother Tancred, I apologize if you have covered this earlier in the thread and I just didn't see it, but how are you doing the faces? I have it in my mind (for when I'm brave enough to model a Marine without a helm) to give my Astartes a dusky complexion similar to what you've done. Thanks! Corsair
Waiting for my wife to take the final photos for me before I put up my fluff (I am going to expand out to a separate thread too, methinks. Also considering setting up a photobucket or some such to get away from the tiny photos...hmmm), but in the meantime here are my completed Captain and Librarian taken using my phone camera: M'hael Vraqqon, Tallyman, Master of the Salt in the Wounds, Captain of the Fifth Company Epistolary Oren Maddox, Walker of the Darkest Dreaming Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282734-a-tale-of-18-hobbyists-wip-project-thread/page/20/#findComment-3558151 Share on other sites
NovemberIX
First off happy new y'all! (to bring a little Texanism into this fair thread) Tancred and Corsair, very impressive y'all, those are some great models. I know I keep saying this by they have such character, such dynamism, and not least of, such great painting. Kudos brothers. So to start my year off, I'm doing something a little light points wise, but maybe not work wise. I'll be building an Infernus pattern Deimos Predator. I would have been doing a Contemptor dreadnought, but I've some how managed to misplace my Keres assault cannon, and to be a hundred percent honest, I don't particularly feel like ordering another one given the price in shipping, so hopefully I find it, and it didn't end up staying in my old apartment when I moved. http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag67/NovemberIX/756736C7-2C09-4682-B9BF-AE228D204C5F-17491-00001CD3879A5A38_zps9068c58f.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282734-a-tale-of-18-hobbyists-wip-project-thread/page/20/#findComment-3558206 Share on other sites
geektom
Looking great, Corsair! I like the blue purity seals, and the green of the power weapons- strong choices! helterskelter
That is a really nice conversion! Have you considered using the front section from the dark vengeance bikes to special up his mount a bit? geektom
That is a really nice conversion! Have you considered using the front section from the dark vengeance bikes to special up his mount a bit? I have, actually- I decided against it only because I was having a heck of a time finding one... I think it will be for the best in the long run, as it has forced me to think of some different ideas-like mounting a grav pistol in place of the headlight- finally he can keep one hand on the handlebars, lol. I will also be continuing the "lightning forks" look from my test bike- plus a few bits here and there. He will have a spruced up ride, for sure! If anything, I am worried about it being too cluttered. I can go a bit overboard with the bashing , sometimes. LG Thanks mate, it is a really simple technique and I'll try and make a tutorial when I paint the next model but until then: First base with Rakarth Flesh Then wash with Reikland Fleshshade Touch up and highlight with Rakarth Flesh Highlight with Pallid Wych Flesh Fine highlight with White Cheers and keep up the great work guys, Brother Tancred Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282734-a-tale-of-18-hobbyists-wip-project-thread/page/20/#findComment-3559535 Share on other sites
chaplainmikey
Brother Tancred - Fantastic work on your Raven Guard, they are simply stunning! :O For Jan I'll be going for 5 Tacticals and 5 Scouts. NovemberIX
So another in my list of minor updates. I really love asthetic of the bubble preds, the resin not as much, but it's been fairly easy to straighten out. I really gonna have to take a day to figure out how I want to paint this thing though. I'm thinking something that is akin to my land raiders with the insert layers in black, the top layers of armour in yellow and the middle layer as either silver or even a dark blue. Speaking of resin, to digress a bit, in the first photo it's hard to tell just how mangled the sides were. After only a few small 2nd degree burns in hot water they more or less flushed up, I did both tanks last night, if I was gonna singe I wanted to only do it once. Though I now hold a hope to actually build my storm eagle and not just continue to let it sit in its bag in the box. http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag67/NovemberIX/B7A37150-26F1-42A8-86C6-4E4E3E2299C4-18298-00001EC47137FE36_zps9d50fdd2.jpg The Nietono is on the right, it'll carry heavy flamer sponsons and a Magna-Melta as its primary weapon, but I'll probably try to magnetize (or at least just blue tack) it so I can also use the FlameStorm cannon. The Torch of Lamies will be constructed in the coming months as I get around to fixing it's conversion Beamer and plasma cannon, that'll probably carry heavy bolters. I think this month I'll try and post some fluff from the pov of Forge Lord Abielle as he works on these ancient war machines.
