BB - Conversions/Sculpting: Luna Wolves Test Model 17/11

Recommended Posts

Evening one and all!

This thread shall be the home of my various 'off-topic' meanderings into power armour; i.e. whenever I get distracted from my Luna Wolves (all the time).

The main projects that I'm working on at the moment are:

 • Assorted mid-late heresy World Eaters
 • The odd outlandishly ambitious attempts to delve into the world of truescale (and usually failing miserably)
 • The Primarch project - gotta catch 'em all
 • Warhound Titan GD entry (don't know whether I can post that here though, so you may have to look at some other forums for that one tongue.png)
Whether any paint is put upon the model is of course something of a moot question. I hope to get into commissions but I have a lot of work to do elsewhere in life...so we'll see. Of course, anyone who is interested....don't hesitate!! Money is an incentive to focus after all.

To business then, meagre offerings today I'm afraid, just a WIP of a World Eater I'm looking at entering into a forum competition:

http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/1624/ufsz.jpg

A fair amount of detail has been sculpted into this, though a poor pre-bed photo hasn't helped the matter!

There are World Eater jaws on his left shin, and a MkVI-esque shin plate instead of a kneepad on said leg. His right leg has the beginnings of the legion numeral on it - done the X.

And some fairly drastic repositioning of the legs.

smile.png any comments etc. are welcome

@Brother Duncs: Thanks mate, brutal was the aim! ;) More to come!!

The first three images are of the victim that the Marine will be choking, I wasn't sure how the hand looked so I've taken a few angles, similarly with the cloth: it's my first attempt at sculpting it so I'm not sure how good it is :/ Yet to be done to this poor victim are his legs, arms and webbing - no sexy assault vest for him, after all, he cannot be ally for allyness saves lives and he is dying. Not sure whether I should do any work to his face bit risky.

These photos are more to show the details I've worked into the armour: the World Eater jaws, well the top half of it anyway, which I'm going to have to add some more definition to now that I gave him one long shin plate instead of a knee pad.

Legion numeral and a bit of a chaos star, going to do a bit more to the star later.

C&C is of course welcome smile.png

@Deathspectre: Thanks!! Here's some more for you (not much, granted).

@Olisredan: It is indeed very experimental, developing GS skills are the most important part of the hobby for me at the moment, that and airbrushing.

@Tarvik: Cheers mate :) And feel free, best form of flattery and all that :P Paint should begin in the next few days!

I've done quite a bit more work on the World Eater and Victor (Victor the Victim), to the point that all I need to do on Vic are his legs and right arm - not sure whether I'm going to have him alive and reaching for the hand or whether to leave him with both arms limp. The World Eater has the bolt pistol strapped to his leg nicely now, so he won't lose it. I've also found some smaller chains on eBay to use to dangle trophies off, though I haven't sculpted/sourced these yet. This is a bit of a problem as I'm entering this into a GW comp at my local GW, the deadline for this being the 30th Nov.

Sadly, there're no photos of this because my camera decided that this would be the most appropriate moment to die. Totally.

All I have managed to photograph is the very early beginnings of a Daemon Prince I bought yesterday for the Call of Chaos VI. This image is about an hour or two into the work. In news related to this I've started on the other unit that's being entered into it: a Sorcerer/Dark Apostle. However, as I'm not willing to use any of my FW marine bits (Luna Wolves and World Eater only!) he's being made purely from guardsman and bits of sprue waste, truescale for a cultist army.

The Rampager himself is completely built now, currently primed and layering his armour. The chain weapon will be glued into the base once the rest is painted because it gets in the way so much.

Tomorrow I'll upload images of the victim, he's almost done now - I just need to find an arm and finish his ammo pouches on his right side. The only problem I'm having at the moment with that is making his left arm look right - compound fractures are hard to sculpt, and I'll be damned if I'm Google imaging that...

Comments, criticism etc. more than welcome!

Khornate Daemon Prince for Call of Chaos WIP. Got chainmail sleeve coming along nicely, though I'm having to do it in small chunks because it takes so long and the GS dries. Oh, and it makes your eyes melt. Got the butcher's nails pretty much done into the back of his head too now (can't really see on this picture); I just need to sculpt the sockets for them. Then once that's done I'm pondering giving him some form of helmet, we'll see. Struggling to make the legs run, but I'm determined not to have a hunched Daemon Prince.
World Eater Rampager PIP, the World Eater himself is done minus blood, all I've done on the Guardsman is his face. I sculpted his hand to try and make it look as if he's dropping it. Not sure if it worked though. Still, on the whole happy with it so far.

Please don't refrain from directing any comments, questions or criticism at me, I have a fairly thick skin!

@deathspectersgt7: That he does! The guardsman shot out the rest of his helmet...so he killed him

Happy New Year everyone!! (tomorrow's close enough)

These are the WIPs of my next Luna Wolf, I've put them up here because I think I'm just going to leave the Luna Wolves log to lie, and make a Hall of Honour thread for completed units. Anyway, onto the juicier stuff, here's the images. I'm hopefully going to get some paint onto him tomorrow after I tidy up a few things on here and find my airbrush compressor...

@deathspectersgt7: Thanks! Drove me crazy that did lol!

Evening gents and gentettes,

I thought I'd put up some decent photos of that veteran because the original lighting was hideous, and an early PIP of the veteran (near the bottom).

Here's a scale shot between the marine and a Vostroyan IG (I don't possess any of the stock Cadians that people always seem to use for scale shots, not built at any rate). As you can see the top of where his head would be if you ignore the bearskin and the raised base of the marine is mid-upper chest. This is what I personally imagine a marine's proportions to be like, if anyone has any thoughts/comments with regards to this please put them to me. If there are any glaring issues I'd prefer that they were rectified as of marine numero 3 rather than someone saying 'oh by the way...' when I'm three squads in!

Oh, and mildly heretical image is is the PIP of the marine incase anyone was wondering. I tried some zenithal highlighting with the airbrush, I'm not sure how it's gone, so I'll have to wait for the finished piece for a true verdict, but it does seem a bit stark at the moment, though perhaps that's because of the pose not allowing much of the model to the light.

If anyone has any questions, comments, criticism (but not a gag order!!) please fire away!!! It helps a lot to focus projects down to the nitty gritty. For anyone wanting to have a peak at these new Orks

-Blissful Brushes-

@Marshal2 Crusaders: The modified MkIV? Or the axeman's? The Axeman's is a Grey Knight's helm with a sculpted aquila. The MkIV was done by shaving the raised part of the helm, then GS'ing two layers and an additional wire on one side. (I've found a picture below).

@Deathspectersgt7: Thankie, brutal is, as ever, my goal.

@TJWyrm: Thanks brother, your wish is my command. Decided to do a bit to it today, so I went from this:

To this:

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/829/5z4x.jpg

I'm hoping to get this beast done by Gamesday 2014, though I think that's highly unlikely when the scope of the project is actually considered...still, it'll make a nice entry for vehicle/diorama I hope!

Below are some things that are currently on the workbench, a slightly converted Angron, a Vostroyan vox operator, and most of my tanks...still got a pair of 'raiders, a rhino and a 2nd ed Vindicator (think it's 2nd ed anyway...) in a draw.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/843/c8ux.jpg

@TJWyrm: He's still got the stock head, what I've done is slightly changed the angle of his axes so that his arms are out-stretched a bit more as if he's in mid swing rather than just on the prowl. There's just something about me that says that I can't just build a stock model...it's infuriating because I never get anything done...

@Brother Tyrax: Cheers man msn-wink.gif

@Marshal2 Crusaders: Not a problem!! You know the tiny bits of sprue that come on FW's shoulder pad sets? About 1mm in diameter, I got one of those, glued it to the weapon, then sculpted some 'grippy' kind of grooves with GS over the top. A bit fiddly, but as long as the glue's set properly it shouldn't be a huge drama.

My only concern now is whether to bother finishing him: there are two options:

A) Finish him.

cool.png Buy a new Angron, and chop him up too for my Titan diorama instead.

Afternoon all,

Got the Daemon Prince well under way now, the majority of his top half is done, I just need to do the straps that hold the armour of his left arm together. I've begun to get the armour plating on his left thigh too, so a fairly productive day!!http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c320/blissfulbrushes/2014-02-14174809_zps44271045.jpg

I've also got another couple of marines on the way, slowly but surely. It's been too cold to work with GS much here which has been a pain; I'd hoped to have a lot more progress, but such is life.http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c320/blissfulbrushes/2014-02-14174902_zps7da98782.jpg

Then here's the beginnings of my first TS terminator...proving to be a painhttp://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c320/blissfulbrushes/2014-02-14174955_zps5808d028.jpghttp://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c320/blissfulbrushes/2014-02-14175008_zpsb83b9094.jpghttp://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c320/blissfulbrushes/2014-02-14174932_zps3cf5464f.jpg

Any comments/queries or guidance are more than welcomed !!!!

Until next time...

@Deathspectersgt7: Thanks, yup he is biggrin.png Slowly but surely...

In my inability to stick with any project for long, or rather, stop myself from starting new projects as I go, I have unsurprisingly began another project, and it is of course another Power Armour project.

As to what army it’ll be I am as yet undecided, I have, however, narrowed it down to two:

 • Ultramarines I Company, post Battle for Macragge. So it’ll be full of Tyranid War veterans and I envisage that lots of the members have served in the Deathwatch.
 • Deathwatch Strike force to go with an inquisitor project that I have in the works.

So to aid this project I purchased one of those new tactical squads. I did debate the Vanguard/Sternguard boxes for the extra fanciness because the marines be they Deathwatch or Ultramarine will be veterans, but I came to the conclusion that everything that I do I chop up and GS so there's little point in spending more money for less models when I'm going to do most of my own detailing anyway.

So without further ado, I present the early WIP of the first marine from the box. He's a bit smaller than my Luna Wolves - I've halved the spacers around his torso because I felt that my Luna Wolves were a bit top heavy, this is the result of that thought process. Any opinions either way?

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c320/blissfulbrushes/Deathwatch%20Ultramarines/2014-03-04150309_zps7e5b56e0.jpg

Oh, and there's a normal marine there for scale purposes and Darren the Daemon Prince poking his head through in the background.

Any comments, questions, and most certainly in this case, advice is welcome and much sought after!
