Vengeful Spirit

I saw GM talking about finishing the book on his site and that he'd post the Neil Roberts art once he gets the nod - looks like someone beat him to it.

So we find out what Horus has been up to since Istvaan and hear from Loken again.  Anyone else have any thoughts on what we might get from the book?!

Really excited for this book. Horus has been almost completely lacking in characterization since the opening trilogy. The short audio drama Warmaster did more for him as a character than anything since False Gods. I just kind of wish that John French was writing this, I really liked the ideas put forth in Warmaster.

Yeah that was good, showed a very insecure Warmaster I'd say - he knows he got the bum deal.

I think it'd be awesome to have a Loken story running parallel, not in so much as him becoming physically involved with the Horus storyline but if he was harrasing the SoH in some way that would go down well with me.

Maybe we'll get a hint of Euphrati Keeler and Iacton too!

Maybe this novel will kill the funny feeling I have for the traitor legions, that appart from the primarchs and a few named characters, everyone in the said legions is a loyalist. I mean, the sole fact that the Sons of Horus had to purge themselves from that many astartes doesn't sound well with Horus being the god of its legion, so having everyone and his mother remaining loyal (and surviving Istvaan III, because why not, right ?) feels kinda cheap.

I remember the time when only a handful of astartes managed to escape. Now, it sounds more like "well, the legions escaped the betrayal of their primarchs and remained on the good side of the road".

I wish Loken was still dead. sad.png

I agree. As much as I like Loken as a character and I felt sorry for when he died it was really necesarry for the story. The whole Isstvan III insident, and the reason for why its my favorite battle of the HH, is the whole "doomed heroes" feel. They know they wont survive but they will drag as many traitors as possible down with them.

Though saying this I dont mind the few survivors mentioned in Betrayal that survived and/or escaped from the planet, but: Loken, Saul, Tarik and Nero Vipus all died at Isstvan III and they will remain dead.

Wait... This is a Graham McNeill book? Ugh... Let's hope it's not rapey and is better than angel exterminatus.

"Hey, Horus." said Erebus as he squinted his eyes in a shifty manner. "You should pull your whole Legion out of the war and sail into the Eye of Terror with me, your totally trustworthy servant who isn't planning to backstab you."

"Yes, I think I will." The Warmaster answered.

"Boss, you do know he's gonna betray us, right?" asked Abaddon. "I mean, the way he was rubbing his hands together saying 'Yesssss, soon I will betray them' was a big giveaway."

"I know, my son, but we're pulling the Legion out of the war and following him into the Eye anyway. Because REASONS."

Well, one out of four aint bad.  Tarik is dead.  The others,  not so much.

I hope Loken catches up to Lil Horus in this book.  I bet Aximand craps his Mark IV plate.

It's almost like Loken was right.......

Nah, I can live with Healing Factor Vulkan.

And I have a feeling Cyrene is a piece in a long game. To be honest, her death was kind of something I glossed over. It was tragic, but it wasn't like Loken's or Argel Tal's. Heck, the mere prospect of Lotarra dying practically had me on the edge of my seat.

So her's is excusable as it really didn't cheapen anything and I got a gut feeling we will see more of her.

And I think "Tormageddon who was Torgaddon" is just a way of showing that old fluff where souls became the playthings of the warp and Tarik's happened to be molded into a daemon.

We didn't see much of him in Know No Fear and I don't expect to see much of him again.
