The Highlander
Soooo, im starting up (a few)Heresy army(s). What I want to know is, which of these Legions do you prefer, and why should I make an army of them. And this goes for colour, theme, feel et. Anything at all that makes these Legions epic: The Iron Warriors The Imperial Fists The Thousand Sons The Death Guard And yes, I realise all my choices are polar opposites/hated enemies. Grotsmasha
Honestly, I'm saying do the Thousand Sons simply because I haven't seen a Heresy army of them yet, a little bit of talk here and there, but no action, I think there's a lot of potential for awesome sauce there. Dumah
The problem inherent in such a question is perspective: cool to you may not be cool to me etc. However, so as not to totally cop out on an answer, I'll have to throw my vote in for the Death Guard. They are the Geneva Convention's worst nightmare and like to huff poison for fun. All of their characters in every medium (BL, GW, FW) are bad mamajamas and their Primarch basically IS the Grim Reaper of 40k. Need I say more? GhostMalone
I was in the planning stages of the thousand sons and just couldn't bring myself to it, one book for reference isn't really enough to be fluff accurate Edit: do death guard Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282889-legions-legions-everywhere/#findComment-3514276 Share on other sites
phalanx mechanic
I agree with Dumah on this, I had a sons army a while ago and ended up wishing id done a deathguard army instead. there a good looking army when all together thoe........ but no deathguard definatley. I've got a large fists army and they come with all the fluff you could wish for. natural that means that I'm opposed to everything about iron warriors thoe ! :) cheers, Sean Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282889-legions-legions-everywhere/#findComment-3514293 Share on other sites
Durfast Spiritwolf
Of the armies you list, only two are available at present. The other two must use the vanilla list. So it's hardly a fair comparison. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282889-legions-legions-everywhere/#findComment-3514338 Share on other sites
DuskRaider
I love my Death Guard. They're no nonsense, they don't prescribe to useless ornate armor or pompous titles and badges of rank. They wear bare ceramite, trimmed in naked bronze and bear the color of Barbarus on their pauldrons. They don't name their weapons, they don't give them fancy paintjobs, they're standard grey and they're just tools. The weapon is the man wielding it. They are resolute, they fear nothing, they show endurance few others can. Their badges of honor are the damage they've sustained and survived. The XIVth Legion are the epitome of man's resilience and survival in a harsh universe. GhostMalone
And if you want to do them on transit to terra for conversion potential some slowly corrupting whilst others staying resilient ;) Tis what I'm doing Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282889-legions-legions-everywhere/#findComment-3514352 Share on other sites
Dark Scipio
Doing thousand sons before we see what forgeworld does for them, and I expect a lot to happen, isnt going to make you happy. FunkyMonkey
You should wait until all of these legions and their rules come out Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282889-legions-legions-everywhere/#findComment-3514534 Share on other sites
DuskRaider
I would think that Thousand Sons rules will be VERY complex, both with the different Cults, and the abundance of Psykers. Reyner
Iron Warriors! You only have to wait until Easter (apparently) for Book 3 to come out so you could build up the basics and then be ready for the awesome stuff. grand_master85
I'm a Pre-Heresy era Iron Warriors player myself, so I'm clearly biased ;-) but they really aren't that common a Heresy army to see. I'm not entirely sure why, but there are Imperial Fists armies popping up everywhere! There are quite a few Death guard players too, so I'd say Thousand Sons or Iron Warriors. End of the day though, it's your army, your choice; I let so many things sway me, cool minis, awesome books, that i constantly changed my Legion and never did the one I truly wanted. Now I'm doing IW, I've managed to paint about 70% of my 2.5k so far in about 2 weeks! Just realise you need to have real enthusiasm in your Legion choice as you're going to be dropping a helluva lot of money on these guys! Russ Brother 92
I'm with the folks for IWs - 1kSons are lovely but the books not out for a while and at least (as mentioned) you can build up the units without worrying too much. Brother Captain Lucian
Another vote for the IW's. As I just started them as well. I wanted Thousand sons, but there is no point imho to start those, when their book is far out. Max Power
I'm voting for Imperial Fists. With all these traitors around, I need someone to stand with me at Terra. Read the short story "Crimson Fist", and tell me you don't want to start a breacher marine based army. helterskelter
Based on the cover of A Thousand Sons im going to butcher a tomb king with the cobra head piece and try and make the snakehelm and im going to buy some catraphracti and attempt to sculpt some scarab occultish bits. With a reaper autocannon, coz you know, better numerology, more scary name etc That eagle helm is a bit tasty though... Durfast Spiritwolf
[irony]Wow, they in no way infringe GW's IP [/irony] Personally, I'd rather wait, support the good efforts of FW, and help keep the candy flowing. Supposedly, a different core list will be published in the beginning of each trilogy, to show unique specializations within certain Legions as well providing new units. Similar to how new FoCs were published in Massacre.
