Tide Walkers: A WIP chapter

Inspired by the work of geektom and brother chaplain kage, I've decided to restart work on my white scar successors, and idea I partially implemented before with the Headhunters, but as time wore on, they moved from almost carbon copy to something I hope has a bit more flavour.  They are drawn from a world almost entirely covered by ocean, travelling via large fleets of gargantuan ships, fighting over the pockets of land that hold precious resources that can't be found at sea, namely, wood and metal.

The chapter make a large use of attack bikes and landspeeder squadrons, as they are the closest resemblance to the two-person skiffs that warriors fight from on the oceans of the planet.

I'll use this topic to update my progress, and hopefully implement any advice that a fresh pair of eyes can give.  I might try my hand at some fluff as well, if I can find the time.  My job doesn't give me a massive amount of downtime.

At the moment, I am converting a Chapter Master, to stand in the side-car of an attack bike.

First, a mini for the test scheme.  I used greens and blues, and a black wash, to try and give a more stormy look via uneven colour on flat surfaces.  The shoulderpads are unpainted, I'm not sure what to colour them at the moment:

Right, onto the Chapter Master:

The attack bike he will be riding:

And finally, something i'm trying to work on, a cloak that's meant to look like 'arms of a kraken', as he hails from the 'brotherhood of the Kraken', which is the name of one of the Chapters.

There's ten 'strips', two of which are the front fasteners.

C&C would be much appreciated, fresh eyes work wonders.

Hi mrun0riginal, I like where this is going, a lot, especially your chapters backstory and I can't wait to see your finished chapter master, I can imagine a real naval pose - one hand on hip, the other pointing to direction his army...

I'm still a bit undecided about your colour scheme though, I understand where you're going with it, so I think I'll hold my reservations until your test models finished :-)

Good luck mrun0riginal, looking forward to your next update!

Quite possibly Kage, though spetum blades usually jut to the sides like a pickaxe. An ambitious beginning to this project brother, wondering where else this nautical theme will go. Perhaps well see a chaplain with a anchor shaped rosarius or a trident crozius? Heh

Thanks Khaki! I need to work on the colour scheme, yeah.  I'm not tippy-top on highlighting and more advanced techniques, so that's just basic colours there.

Is that a spetum? O_O

It's going to be an oversized grappling hook.  I'm trying to find chain fine enough to attach to the base and loop at the waist.  The other grappling hook looking weapon I made will be used by the 'honour guard'. Spetums are pretty cool though, need to find a way to get one in.  The main weapons though, will be based of these grappling hooks, boarding hook weapons (Shortened chainswords on long poles with war picks on them), and bar maces.

I...never thought of that.  Damn! I need to make a Chaplain!

Thank you all so much for your kind words.  I don't have much free time, nursing doesn't leave a man much freedom in his day, but here are a few small updates:

The arm is now pointing:

I made a gorget of green stuff, actually pretty proud of it.  Needs a bit of filing in a few days..

I added more banding to the chapter master's legs, mainly to hide my work:

I have the weekend off, so I hope to begin mocking up positioning by then.

Psh, weekend off!  My job means I can only work in tiny fits and starts.  I've gone for a mock up of my Chapter Master at the moment, using some white tac.

I'm either going to wrap the chain around the waist on a sash belt, or make a loop that hangs at the waist.  Depends how much patience I have...

After this picture, I may have to extend the legs a bit more, as he looks about 100 feet wide for some reason.  I think I may go for a loop at the waist rather than looping around, now that I look at it.

This will be the main unique weapon within the Chapter.  This one's more over the top than the others.  It's a combo between flanged mace, short spear and grappling hook.  Each brotherhood will have slightly differing ones.

I have a few days off coming up, I plan on making a member of the honour guard, going to be a very lanky guy, that one.

C+C appreciated, as ever.
