Eternal Warrior
Good day to all sons of the All Father. I come with a question. There is no more diversity for HQs than in the sons of Russ. The only non terminator armored HQ I can think is converting a decent Ragnar but I have seen a lot of wolf priests. Then there are the awesome terminator armored lords. And then another step is a bike and then even the mighty and kick @$$ thunderwolf mount. Long story short what are the best HQs for 6th ed? And what are the thoughts on special characters in this edition? Thank you all. logun
i still use Logan in 2000pts+, have a bit of fun with Njal in bigger games also. Arjac is great and i use him from time to time. haven't really felt any of the others were worth taking for their points. although we did use Bjorn in a 5000pt game and he was awesome, we kinda wanted him to die so we would have 120 fearless grey hunters/wolf gaurd but he kept on taking the hits. for standard games of around 1500pts i start with a rune preist and wolf preist(hunter saga) or i swap them both out for a thunder lord Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283170-leaders-of-the-pack/#findComment-3519346 Share on other sites

Rift Blade
I'm with Logun, under 1800 pts it's usually a Rune Priest & either a Wolf Priest or a Wolf Guard Battle Ldr on a Thunder Wolf. If I'm playing my Thunder Wolf army, it's a Wolf Lord. I occasionally use Bjorn(usually when I know I'm playing against Dark Angels(there are 2 Dark Angel players here & they used to want to do the whole fluff challenge thing & the first time I just happened to playing around wit Bjorn...and well.. he is an HQ so he was my Champion. The look on the other guy's face when I plopped Bjorn down across from his Terminator Capt. with power sword was priceless). As for special Characters, my go to guy has to be Ragnar followed by Njal then old Wolf Logan himself. Ulrik is mediocre at best & Canis...well... I have the model. For the non HQ guys, Arjak oh yeah! And Lukas is alot of fun to. To bad you have to take Blood Claws to get him. Eternal Warrior
That's good to hear. Njall is my homie. How many of what components come in the thunderwolf cavalry box? The new kits usually have multiples of gear (a la vanguard) but is there only one power fist/thunder hammer and the like? Yes to one power fist/thunderhammer, but as you can only have one per squad not really much of an issue. Plenty of other weapons in there to spruce up your grey hunters, blood claws, and wolf guard. DanPesci
For me, if you are playing under 1500, the only real competitive HQs for us are rune/wolf priests, as other choices just take up too much space. Wolf lord builds can be good, but i only take them in games above 1500. I either take a thunderwolf lord, or have a lord in a landraider kitted out in terminator armour, powerfist, and wolf claw I never seem to find the space for WGBL, theyre just not good enough..and i always prefer finding the extra 30 pts somewhere to make them a lord. Logan is awesome in 1850+ games, makes your wolf guard scoring, and you can do sneaky things with him like have him arrive in a pod full of multimeltas. Arjac (although not strictly HQ), can be great, and is fun, but with only 2 wounds, ive had him die soft deaths a couple of times. If you managed to combine his hammer throw on a character with a follow up from a jotww rune priest through, your opponent will cry ;) I used ulrik once in an apocalypse game, that was it. cool guy, but ruleswise he doesnt really add anything great (if anything a standard wolf priest is more flexible). Canis - good against hordes, but thats about it. A thunderlord setup is usually a better choice Bjorn + Njal - never actually used, although im hoping to do a bjorn build soon lukas - again not strictly HQ, and you have to take sucky blood claws, but his last laugh move is...well...a laugh :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283170-leaders-of-the-pack/#findComment-3519753 Share on other sites
Bloody Legionnaire
My personal FavoriteWolf Lord:Thunder Wolf Mount, Saga of the Bear, Storm Shield, Thunder Hammer, Runic Armor.Even better than a TDAWL with saves that are just as good, increase in Attacks, Strength, and Toughness and more mobile. The only downside is the inability to protect the Lord by putting him in a Transport, but with Fenrisian Wolves for extra wounds and a Unit of TWC to go along with him... he is one awesome Deathstar!I believe there is only one power fist, thunder hammer, and frost axe in the box. To add a comment onto DanPesci post... combining Arjac and Logan in the same squad with some other TDAWGS is a pretty nasty unit as well.
