Starting up a new, DIY Chapter. What I have so far is a very heavy Greco-Roman theme. Just to clarify, I don't consider the ultrasmurfs to have a Roman theme any more than any vanilla chapter, there isn't enough of it to be what I would call a theme.

I already have bits from Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard and will be getting Minotaur things, amongst other bits. I already have Sevrin Loth and his Honor Guard, which I also plan on having in this army. The name and Chapter Emblem is where I'm hitting a snag, while I will have bits from Blood Angels, Minotaurs, Red Scorpions and just some random non-GW here and there, their Parent Chapter I want to remain a mystery. I like the iconography of the Scorpions and Minotaurs, and one thought I had was to have both. Go with either or Constellation theme or just some of the more well known Mythological creatures. Scorpio for the Honor Guard, the Minotaur for Termies, etc.

Would using different emblems like that, but still using either color or a background to link them, to designate squads or roles vary too much?

I'm undecided which rules/tactics to sue yet, but I know it wont be Space Wolves, is having a single army with one force work chart of multiple companies okay to do? I'm not aware of any official rule, but what do people generally think of that? I do realize things like Veterans are a different company, but other than that, like an army fielding a conglomerate of 4th and 7th Companies or something.

I didn't mean to use space wolves codex, just the symbol style! the point of the reserve companies is to support the battle companies, so if you wanted you could say the battle company isn't at full strength due to.... so it's being reinforced front the reserve/1st/10th company

You mean like a task force? Fluffwise, it's something that's done quite often. As far as the tabletop is concerned, so long as you're fielding a codex legal army, then you're good to go.

Sounds like a potential spartan theme here. The mythological creature names for squad names would not be bad but the usual MO is to name a squad after it's sergeant, iirc. Now, are you asking if you can replace this: FA.gif; HS.gif;Troops.gif sort of thing with pictures of constellations/mythical creatures?

That was one option, replacing the typical indicators for Tactical, Assault etc. Had not thought of being company designators, that too is a possibility.

The Minotaurs are really the Spartan army for 40k, but the Spartans actually were fairly uniform, having the same symbol, Lambda (the chevron) on their shields and all matching red cloaks. I'll be pulling from several armies of Greek City-States, there was not one Greek Army, as well as the Holy Roman Imperial Army. Basically it comes down to the roles of Tactical, Assault, Devastator simply use Greco-Roman Mythological creatures and heroes in lieu of the standard indicators, or the different Companies are represented similar to how the individual Greek City-States were, with their own iconography and colors (but here the different colors would be limited to shoulder trim or shoulder insert or just the different icon only)

The list of classical Greek monsters is pretty long, so you have lots of options, although most are already being used to name other things:

Chimera, Manticore, Pegasus, Titan, Leviathan, Behemoth, Gorgon, Medusa, etc etc. GW likes their ancient monster names, so you are going to be fighting that the entire time. I think a much easier, though perhaps less interesting approach, is to just call each company your Legion. You could have your Princeps, Centurions, Legatus, Legionnaires, Tribunes, Praetorians, etc etc. The ranks are as varied as the names of your commanders and officers, who could all be Roman influenced. The only issue is originality. What do they do? How are they unique, besides being Roman or Greek?

I've narrowed it down to counts as Blood Angels with specialization in assault, counts as White Scars with specialization in bikes (chariot theme), or of course counts as the Minotaurs, downside for that is I don't have the FW book for them, or if I went with Red Scorpions which I only thought about because I'm using some of the models. But Red Scorpions isn't likely. Also fluff wise, I was thinking while their Progenitor isn't known, it is likely Minotaurs or Blood Angels.

I like the idea of using the new White Scars for an with many "chariots". But I think I like the fluff more of using Blood Angels and I could use a lot of Victoria/Nike imagery, seeing as how she/they are identical to a christian angel, which never appears in any Space Marine iconography ever.
