Where is Aeonid Thiel... SPOILERS

So after Know No Fear, Censure and Unremembered Empire it’s become pretty clear the he (Aenoid Thiel) has become a pivotal character, respected by Guilliman and essentially the start of the red helm tradition in terms of being a good thing.  The last we ‘actually’ saw of him was in Censure when he managed to get off Calth and was discussing Imperium Secundus with the transport pilot.

 

We then think we’re seeing him in UE but it turns out that the Alpha Legion are disguised as him, so clearly they’ve come across him somewhere, but where the hell is he?  Why didn’t Abnett elaborate on what is essentially his own character.  Has he bumped into Marius Gage at some point perhaps and has become preoccupied with smashing up some WB's?

 

What are people thoughts regarding where he is and how he’ll next feature…

I don't think they'd kill him off just like that, I think his outcome will eventually be explained, I wouldn't be surprised if he comes the first chapter master of a successor, like the Novamarines or Genesis Marines etc.

I think he'll defo make a return, I'm just mystified as to why there was no further mention of him in UE.  I thought we would have at least got a sniff to hang on to at the end of the book but it seems like we'll get something later on.

 

I think he's defo come into contact with the AL and whilst I hope he's not dead it interesting how they managed to steal Ultra Marine armour and pretend to be him, it cant' be his armour though because his was covered in blood hence the infiltration of WB's on Calth.

Hence the mission survival record; all the best legionnaires are playing the heroes of the other legions.

 

Despite how epic and grimdark it would be (I <3 Thiel), I really doubt BL will pull K. Loken's T-X on Thiel (no, not the Astartes, the one with the bigger chest).

Maybe that's the real reason the space marine numbers are so much smaller 'now'. There were still loads, even after all the traitors/deaths, but they're all in cold storage on Titan

Thiel could be pivotal. Personally I want to see Gage back and doing some smashing. Though I've got a feeling he'll have a messy end and the Ultramarines will get betrayed in a devastating trick, yet again.

At least Argel Tal and Sheed Ranko are safe from that particular brand of nonsense.

I could imagine both in front of Malcador:

 

'Argel Tal, i want you to become one of my grey knights'

'Yeah I'm cool with that, let me just ask the other guy'

'Errr, what other guy'

'DEMON SMASH'

 

And with Ranko, him and Malcador will be going around for ever. 'I am Malcador', 'No, I am Malcador'....

A quick search through the Harlequin-held Black Library shows that the words most often uttered by Alpharius, in the order most often used, are "Stop copying me."

 

I seem to remember Gage was mentioned somewhere as the first Chapter Master of the Ultramarines Chapter, following the Heresy and Scouring. I can't think of where I heard that, though, so it's likely I am mistaken. If not, it means Gage might be returning. Since he was not listed as killed, I don't mind if he does. He was lost in the chaos of war. We have no idea if he is dead or not.

IIRC, he is list as the "Master of the First Chapter", or "Chapter Master" .

But in seriousness, apparently he is also in the Collected Visions on page 165. Maybe there is something said there?

Maybe. I actually think it was something stated here by someone, or on one of the wikis. I read it online, is all I recall. Nothing readily verified by an outside source. That as a Chapter, not a Legion, he was the first Master.

 

But then, wouldn't Guilliman be the first Chapter Master? He wasn't taken out until after he broke the Legions, so for a time he was.

Marius Gage is the Protagonist in Macragge's Honour, the 30k graphic novel, chasing Kor Phaeron into the Maeolstrom. Not sure what happens to him in it though
