Carcharadons Astra

Ok Guys, looking for help here.

Started painting some Carchardon Termies, when I finished I noticed that I have painted the shark symbol backwards according to most of the fluff I have found anyway.

I know, I know, how dumb!!!!

Does it really matter that much, should I start again, my gut feeling is yes?

I agree with Kol. Just because it's not identical to the Chapter symbol shown in the IA books, etc. that in no way means they're not recognisable/playable as Carcharodons.

EDIT: Nice models from what I can see. Looking forward to seeing more :)

Every time I think I'm going to stick to my own custom chapter using Carcharodon tactics I see someone else paint up these guys so well. Not really sure if I can paint the chapter symbol though. Seeing it painted by someone else though it seems doable. You give me hope sir.

They look great to me. I would suggest actually adding something else to their armour to distinguish them further from other Carcharadons (not talking big stuff here, just a gauntlet or bracer here and there) and say that the reversal of the Chapter symbol and the demarcation on their armour is to denote a past failure or defeat they have yet to atone for. Or leave it mysterious and unknown. Carcharadons Astra are one of the most mysterious Chapters out there and don't admit of much explanation, either for their actions or their internal workings, so it could very well be left unexplained.

Just my 2 shells.

It's actually not your fault. That is the "proper" way the symbol should be facing. If you were, say, Raptors or another chapter, that would be a correct shoulder. But for some reason Carcharodons mirror their symbol to always face towards the front, just like United States Marines always have the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor always with the anchor pointed inward.

So really it's up to you how you want to leave it. I personally like the way their right shoulders have mirrored symbols as it looks great when both shoulders have the shark insignia on them, but terminators have the crux on their left shoulder, so you won't really be able to see a discrepancy either way.

And if you want to get into the really nitty gritty, you're "supposed" to not have cruxes on their shoulders, since the only terminator shown in Imperial Armour thus far had both shoulder pads sans-crux. Will Hayes (the official Carcharodons guy) has his terminators leave the cruxes on, but he shaves all insignias off the chests of his terminators.

TL;DR - Space Sharks do whatever the feth they want.

I think your models look great as they are bud. But I'm gonna break from the convention in this thread and say redo them. For one simple reason. Follow your gut. If you don't think they're right then they're not, and its always gonna nag at you. Plus of course you get the bonus of practicing your freehand a little more.

They are fine!

I totally agree.

I think you missed my point though. He doesn't feel like they are. I quote " Should I start again, my gut feeling is yes"

My advice would always be to anyone, follow your gut instincts.

If his question had been. "Here are some Carcharadons I painted do you think they look good"

My answer would have been.

"Yes mate they look fantastic keep up the good work"

Sound advice, though I do think that they look great! :)

Really appreciate the feedback and opinions guys, I've dwelled on it for a few days now and I think I'm going to repaint the symbol, it will simply bug the hell out of me if I dont.

So, while I was considering what to do I started working on a tac squad, your thoughts are much appreciated!!

Really love this pose, I do think its one of the most natural poses I have put together for a marine.

As I understand it the Carcharadons love chainswords so these items will be prevelant throughout the force, however large it may grow.

This force is not for gaming I am simply putting together some models I like and painting them as a chapter that I find very interesting and cool.

I like my marines to look kitted out too, hence the packs and grenades, grenades of course fit the theme of this chapter very well.

And some better pics of the Termies as they stand:

Will get the rest of the squad painted up shortly, and amend those blasphemous reversed chapter symbols!!! teehee.gif

Thanks for looking.

nice sharks dude!

yeah I think you are best of repainting the symbols, you did a good job of it the first two times so your next ones will be even better.

that's the kind of thing that would bug the hell out of me...

not sure about carcaradons, but the Space Wolves decal sheet (from forge world) comes with termie decals that have the heads facing forwards...

keep em coming mate

the only thing cooler than grey space marines is grey space marines with white and black on em!
