Valkyrion
It's made out of ceramite, right? So what colour is unpainted ceramite? Cheers! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283323-what-does-unpainted-power-armour-look-like/ Share on other sites
Chaeron
Credit to Chapter Master Ignus Domus for finding this, taken from here. Their armour is left unpainted, leaving the silver-grey of the ceramite exposed. This tradition is thought to have originated from their desire to lead lives of absolute purity. Upon achieving the rank of Justicar one may display their personal heraldry on a shield on their shoulder. In contrast to this their armour is highly decorated, encrusted with protective symbols and engraved litanies. lhg033
pretty sure some of the black library books describe it as grey rather than metal when they talk about damage. battle repairs are done with a resin though no idea on colour etc. of that Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283323-what-does-unpainted-power-armour-look-like/#findComment-3522602 Share on other sites
Major_Gilbear
Apparently it's a metallic grey; Nathaniel Garro's own armour was left undecorated for the quest he undertook for Malcador the Sigillite on behalf of the Emperor, and is part of why the Grey Knights have "silver" armour (i.e., it's unpainted). Olis
Ceramite could be some form of metallised ceramic - that could explain the metallic finish to unpainted suits. hendrik
and then there's the fact that the upper layer might form oxides, leading to dull the silver colour a bit Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283323-what-does-unpainted-power-armour-look-like/#findComment-3522634 Share on other sites

Lorenzen
Ceramite varies in colour. Death Guard wear unpainted ivory ceramite whilst grey knights wear unpainted steel ceramite. The official answer is "its whatever colour you want" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283323-what-does-unpainted-power-armour-look-like/#findComment-3523220 Share on other sites
Antarius
If you think about it, the funny thing is that the Iron Warriors must be painting their armour to look like iron. Fibonacci
Ceramite varies in colour. Death Guard wear unpainted ivory ceramite whilst grey knights wear unpainted steel ceramite. The official answer is "its whatever colour you want" Personally I always thought of it as being a titanium grey color but I can see where there would be variances in color depending on the where the ceramite was made. After all, Forge World resin does not look like Games Workshop resin. But different forge worlds (in game, not the company) will have different atmospheres that could color the ceramite or maybe thy use another polymer to compensate for a very dry or very humid planet. Badaab
I would imagine that its like any armored or metal surface.Think like a ship's hull, an armored vehicle, or construction equipment- it could even have a powder-coated finish on it! If it *is* painted over, there would also be a primer layer, so think about that when painting battle damage or unpainted surfaces. Also, if you're doing a gloss or mechanical finish, the primer is likely to be flat, regardless of the top coat. Lysere
Helsreach mentions the armor towards the end of the book. Grimaldus and the rest of the Templars have large chunks of paint gone from thousands of glancing hits so their armor appears grey, except for Bayard, the Emperor's Champion, his armor is Gold underneath the paint.
