Cheap, Somewhat Shooty =][= War Band

So with Codex: Inquisition out, I want to add some =][= goodness to my army. I play an aggressive, fast-moving Imperial Guard force, but I usually bring an Aegis defence line for anti-flyer support.

I'm thinking of putting a cheap(ish), shooty Inquisitorial war band behind the Aegis. I'm thinking 5 stock acolytes (las pistol/ccw), 4 acolytes with bolters, and 3 servitors with multimeltas. Weighs in at 70 pts. I'd like something with a bit more variety but most of the options are close combat oriented and Jokaero are just too expensive (I'd rather have more ablative wounds for the meltas). But what do you think? Seems like a decent amount if shootiness and meatshield for 70 pts.

not much you can do if you want a meat shield for low points, other options will push the cost but if you could find the points for the space chimp you should give em a shot hope you roll a 2 and those meltas become a lot better also that can use a heavy flamer for overwatch or lascannon shooting at fliers

what inqusitor were you going to use?

Well I'm using an Ordo Hereticus inquisitor mostly for fluff reasons. I'm planning on kitting him out with power armour, inferno pistol and either a power fist or null rod. He's a Puritan so bit sure that he'd tolerate a Jokaero. Although he is known for pragmatism too.

I mostly want ablative wounds for the multimeltas hence all the "meat shield" aspect. Maybe I have more than I need? They won't be accompanied by the inquisitor (he'll be with the IG on the attack) so I don't want them running after 1 or 2 wounds.

well at least you wont have to worry about mindlock if they will be manning your quad!

will this unit be your rear guard?? or is there something else to help them out? if there is you could probably drop the ccw acolytes and maybe add some special weapons since any other henchman is more cc orientated or they aren't needed because of the agies line

Thanks for all your help, axe.

I just found out today from Forgeworld that Codex: Inquisition is treated as "Come the Apocalypse" by my Death Korps, so no dice.

Although I was planning on having them as a sort of rear-guard with only my artillery (and the newly arrived/recycled platoons when they arrive) for company.

3 x plasma cannon servitors, 9 x Acolytes with storm bolters

Attach Coteaz or a cheap Divination Inquisitor, watch the fireworks. Also, your opponents tears are guaranteed when you tell him how many points it costs (hint; always less than a Tactical squad).

>Chimera

Nice try friend, but as you well know, mech died when 6th edition was printed. GW invoked an unholy ritual in their darkest, deepest crypts, reaching into the past and giving all vehicles a wounds total, now known as 'Hull Points'.

You'd turn your nose up at a 3 Wound, AV12 bunker that shoots 6 x S6, AP4 shots at 36" range?

That you can hide your 3 Plasma Cannon Servitors (also 36" range) inside to make them invulnerable?  Even to D Weapons!

For the meager cost of 60 points.

I won't!

It's only a few points more than an Aegis, protects them better and is cheaper than a Quad Gun.

60 points could buy me another 3 plasma cannon servitors. Checkm8 ;)

I like the Chimera, I do, but mech is dead in 6th. It'll explode and force wounds on them, and I don't like saving on a 4+ (I fail enough saves with 3+ or 2+ armour as is). As I mentioned in the other thread, if the enemy are shooting at your Henchmen, you're ahead.

Take skyshield..... Unless you need that quad gun

4+ invul's on T3 is amusing, but if you've ever fought Horrors, you'd know they still die like flies to any serious attention. I'd rather use the points of a Skyshield for another Henchmen unit. 2 targets > 1 target with mediocre defenses.
