hornywingythingy
Hi guys, not sure if you can help me, or even if this is in the right place, if its not, mods please move it! Two quick questions, does anyone have both a spacemarine thunderfire cannon and a warriors of chaos helcannon, and are they able to do a size comparison for me? Also, has anyone tried kitbashing spacemarine scouts with chaos bits? Was wondering how it would look, have never bought scouts so not sure how easy it would be to chaosify them? Cheers in advance. Lucien Eilam
if you ignore the bracing legs, chains, etc. on each model (which are roughly equivalent), the Helcannon has a footprint of around 60-65mm x 90mm, compared to the Thunderfire's 45mm x 55mm. You have some leeway in terms of inclination when you assemble them, but my Helcannon stands about 85mm tall compared to my Thunderfire's 55mm. You could probably fit a Thunderfire barrel inside a Helcannon barrel without touching the sides. All that said, although it is bigger, the disparity isn't so great that I could see anyone complaining. You don't get any advantage from it, you're just a bigger target. Also, has anyone tried kitbashing spacemarine scouts with chaos bits? Was wondering how it would look, have never bought scouts so not sure how easy it would be to chaosify them? I have a Scout Biker Sergeant with a Marauder Horseman head, and that works really well. I used one of the grim, stoic tribesman heads though, not the overtly Chaotic ones. The size is good though. hornywingythingy
Hmmmnnn.... Might be a problem then, though counts as tends to only be problematic if smaller than the original. Cool on the scouts, cheers for the help. Xenith
With wheels and such, I think the Hellcannon would be much bigger than the thunderfire. The_Chaplain
Well if the height is so different between the two models, why not glue something like marker plastic tube on the outside of the thunderfire cannon, and stick skulls on the new flat surface, and sculpt texture to emulate the hell canon? Then just slap a defiler head on the front and make some sculpted horns? As for making scouts chaotic, why not make dust masks out of green stuff like in the "we are legion" thread? A couple of head swaps, add some scars, put chaos stars and icons on shoulder pads and you're done really Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283440-help-thunderfirehelcannon-comparison-and-chaosfying-scouts/#findComment-3524694 Share on other sites
Seleucus
You can also use Marauder or Catachan parts (legs, arms/weapons and heads,) with the scout sprues. I've done this quite easily for my Wolf Scouts, and it only takes a bit more chaosifying(!) with icons, horns/spikes on shoulder guards etc. which you can get from the marauder boxes. For info, I used the small Kroot shoulder guards with bare Marauder/Catachan arms as it was both simpler, and more rough looking, but the marauder /marauder cavalry shoulder guards would probably suit you better. If using scout arms, you would need to cut file their shoulder guards down first. Major_Gilbear
I think the Helcannon as a chaos Thunderfire would work perfectly well - in fact, as part of a Traitor Marine force using C:SM, it'd even be obvious what it is (which can sometimes be a rare thing for a "counts-as" model).
