Lamenters Work in Progress

Hey folks, Jawaballs here!

I don't make over here often but wanted to come share my current WIP with you all.  Here is my Lamenter Terminator Captain!  The pics are pretty huge and not that great.  You can see some of the other stuff like my Rhino and Storm Raven in the background.  I will post a lot more as I get more done!

Love seeing you post on here, Jawaballs. Your Lamenters have always been a welcome sight on the intertubes.

Thanks man. It has been a while since I have been excited to paint but I forced myself back to the table and back to my Lamenters. I have to say that I am loving this army so far.  I will get a lot more pics up soon.

Captain shoulder pad mostly done.

I was doing a fade from white to grey on the circle for the insignia and you can see how my brush slipped a bit on the right below the heart.  At first it didn't bother me much but looking at it in photograph bugs the crap out of me.  What I like is the almost soft edge "fuzzy" quality of some of the checks.  This is due to the layering of greys I did. (at least 5 or 6 layers of grey on each check) This shoulder pad was my first terminator one and it was a challenge because of it's shape.  The curve is very subtle in some spots and extreme in others and in general unpredictable.

I will need to spend more time on the checks but for now it is time to move on. If I spend the hours making each one perfect before painting another, I will never get the army done!

He should be done soon then on to my next project... the dreadnought.  I dug out a red Furioso dread and I pulled it apart. I am going to do the standard exposed pilot conversion with led lights and stuff.  On the display I plan on having in the structure a little area where there are two service gantries manned by servitors. One of them empty and the other one occupied by the dread with servitors working with flickering LED lights.  I would love if I can get several little sound bites with buttons, big red shiney ones, that people can press at each area of the display for satisfying sound effects like "DIE DIE DIE" from Dawn of War or simple music or welding sounds.  On top of that I plan on adding some motion to the display. I will be using a Hallmark Winter Skating Pond animated display piece as the motor but I will probably create some kind of dueling models. I am thinking a lamenter vs a Genestealer.  It will look a bit cheesy, but it will be cool!  Thoughts?

Wow, that model is simply fantastic; the checkerboard motif was executed perfectly. This is some really inspiring stuff, I'll definitely be following this thread!

Thanks man. The photograph is actually very unforgiving too.  It looks better in person.  The HD pic shows off the imperfections you don't see in person. I need to spend more time focusing on the value within the checks. I think towards the edges I want the black and white to be very close in value... But there is so much to do in this army that I am going to focus on other models and come back to these checks.

Here is another update! I started working on the base. I want to add some lighting effect so I am using the LED from a flickering Tea light. There are a lot of pictures that I uploaded to my blog but here are a few for you here.

Looks like your thumb nail is coming clean finally. whistlingW.gif

I guess that is a good plug for Army Painter black! It is STILL on my thumb... :)

Quoted from Jawablls: "...I will be using a Hallmark Winter Skating Pond animated display piece as the motor but I will probably create some kind of dueling models. I am thinking a lamenter vs a Genestealer."

I think this idea sounds great. Will you be putting magnets in their feet to make them *skate* around ie: electric football table? or simply using the motor to animate them? Either way I think will be quite the show. Keep up the good work.

I will put mags on them and they will slide around. It will hopefully look like they are "dueling". :)

It's great to see something jawa you have been quiet lately and I hope all is well with the family. And the lamenters look amazing

Thanks.  I took a bit of a step back from things for a bit.  Ive been unhappy with the competitive scene and the game in general.  But I have been sort of evolving lately.  I feel particularly inspired by this project.  :)
