Stormraven Chapterhouse Studios extension kit

Hello!

I have been looking at a couple of Stormravens that have been modified with the Chapterhouse Studios extension kit and they look really good. However, before giving money to a company that I have no experience with, I thought I'd ask the community here how their dealings with the company went and how good the quality of their kits is? I heard somewhere that the quality could vary quite a bit between kits, and I'm wondering if this has changed at all?

Cheers,

Ludo

A friend of mine ordered that kit for his Raven and was satisfied.

We are here in Germany so shipping needed some time but was still ok and the kit fitted without problems.

Anyways get that Kit or a Storm Eagle from Forgeworld everything loos better than the unmodified Brick Raven.

I'm living in South Korea (yes, pretty wasteland for Miniature), still I ordered that upgrade kit.

Resin quality is fine, not number one but can handle that not so hard.

In my case, two week and few days (work day only). That not bad, Ludovic.

Just be brave and Try!

There's a Stormraven in my log in my signature which has had the Chapterhouse treatment; I would say go for it but be aware that firstly, the Chapterhouse resin is very, very brittle indeed, and is much more prone to snapping than probably any resin you've used before. It is also a very imperfect cast; I don't just mean warping and twisting, it may actually be uneven in places or lacking segments (I had to add about 5mm of floor panel to make the bottom section even, and it's still not perfect). If you're happy putting in some work to make it look acceptable then go for it.

And they do take a while to send stuff, I was in the UK and it took them somewhere in the region of 4-6 weeks to deliver.

Hope that helps.

Its a pretty decent third party kit. Generous application of super glue and a little bit of green stuff and mine is solid. It was a minor hassle to assemble but very worth the results. Looks a lot more impressive on the table next to standard Ravens and will get a lot of compliments.

Chapterhouse has good customer service, and the kit itself is quite good. It is indeed a minor hassle to tack on, and will require greenstuffing. Some panels may have substantial flash on them so be careful when cutting. Overall I'm very happy with the end result, it makes the SR into a rather large and impressive bird.

You may also want to look into jury-rigging a chin mount for the lascannons/assault cannons/plasma cannons, because once you mount the extension kit, the turret on the roof looks VERY out of place. The kit ships with a handy hatch that covers the hole where the turret sits.

Good delivery time!

Only problem was the casting, thin in places so much so you could put your finger through it!

Plenty of warpage....put some effort in and it makes a good kit.

Shame its not 100% from the off!

Oh......how did that happen?....... whistlingW.gif

^That's a really nice model, dude. May I ask how you attached the wings? I ended up magnetising mine and they're at a different angle, which I prefer, but yours look like they fit right on with no problems.

I've ordered a few of these upgrade to the UK, delivery was as expected from the States, so no issues there (no import duty either), the quality was good, a small amount of tidy up needed, but what resin kits don't!? ;)  Would recommend the use of them any day

Hope that helps

Thanks!

Just glued them into position, cant remember if its the stock location or the Chapterhouse fixing point.

I've just ordered mine to assist in a Storm Eagle conversion, so I'll be able to give comment soon. Honda has some pics in his Custodes thread on the small hassles the kit gave him, iirc he assembled three in total.

Or you can play around with the layout a little like this and keep the air intake forward so the turret does not look out of place.

Its nice to see that someone else ignored the GW instructions and glued the tail elevator the other way around to look more aircraft like - looks much better msn-wink.gif

Both of my Stormravens have the extension. The kit is decent, both required a little green stuff at the seams but overall it made the Stormravens a much better kit. Shipping was pretty quick for me. I also used their alternate top turrets which look a lot better than the stock servitor turret. Pictures are in the build thread below.

Having received my CHS ext kit yesterday, I set about assembling it last night. Honestly, it was a bit of a pig. Figuring I'd built both halves then attach them, I started by attaching the rear plate to the sides, then the top, then the bottom, then to the SR kit. There's a few things I'd do differently.

Firstly, I'd attach the SR side pieces to the ext kit sides by pinning them (some hot water may be required to line up at the bottom), I would also do any gap fill, and there will be some, on the sides at this stage.

Then I would attach the SR front floor and rear wall/hatch plate. I recommend pinning the walls into the leg stand bit for a little more durability, just be aware of where to pin if you're modelling the legs extended.

I found the ext kits floor piece to be, well useless. I turfed it and glued in a cut to size piece of 2mm plasticard.

It was at this stage I decided I'd paint the interior and just dry fitted the roof. I placed the SR top piece then found that the ext kit piece would need trimming to make it sit right, just a little too much overhang on one side.

IMO, although the kit isn't perfect and requires a little work, it's only $25ish, and makes the SR a lot better, I consider the kit to be worth the money.
