Badaboom
Thanks a lot for the feedback, guys! I´m thinking about getting the design to the next stage this week, most probably on Wednesday evening, from 20h Berlin time. Aristander
Third from the left for me - reminds me of a more toned Kurtz/Brando from Apocalypse Now, which isn't a bad comparison for Horus when you think about it... Marshal Rohr
I like the Body on the right, with the fur on the left. Nothing beats the head on the far right though. Jesus, it makes me sad looking at it, in a good way. Like that picture could be a hero for all mankind. Badaboom
http://th08.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2013/345/2/c/horus_lupercal_character_design__2nd_round__by_diegogisbertllorens-d6xlgjs.jpg So I worked on this design a bit more. What do you guys think? Which face would you choose? Which changes would you make on the armor? Marshal Rohr
Im Stil partial to the faces on the left. Something about the grin just makes me like him more. He looks friendly, while confident. The hair on the second from the left is cool, and actually, now that I've seen it, I really like Horus with Hair. The sword is great. Looks like a companion to Sanguinius sword. It would be pretty neat to see the Primarchs who had been closest with the Emperor in the years before the rest started popping up all the time. I think it was Horus, Magnus, Dorn, Russ, and maybe Fulgrim. I can't say for sure. Tyrannicide
I like the middle head and the bald one to the furthest right. As M2C said, he looks suitably charismatic and likeable. Well done, man. :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283596-horus-lupercal-character-design/page/2/#findComment-3544187 Share on other sites
Kais Klip
Head 2 only for the smile, I can't spot any other discernable differences on the features (you've practised Horus well :D). For me, Horus must be clean shaven about the head to retain the militaristic look and not stray too far into the "charismatic jock" territory. The left faces have hair that would look better on Lion El due to their L'Oreal Salon for Men vibe, while the right hair... well, I'll be up in arms if you put one direction/hitler youth hair on my primarch. Edit: I'm having second feelings regarding the tabard. For a ceremonial occasion it looks apt, but if he was just say walking the decks of the Spirit... something about it just takes away from his militaristic edge again (looks too much like an ambassador with it, which I do not take him to be when among his men). I still think a tattered tabard would look rousing after an interrupted ceremony though, something about that regalness being discarded without a second thought that just fits Horus in my eyes. Or it might actually be that the claw balanced out the tabard nicely (the tabard stopped him looking like Abaddon on growth hormones), but I doubt he would be lugging it around so frequently. Conn Eremon
I agree that the tabard would be better absent, or present only ceremoniously. As for heads, bald guy, second from the left. Actually, I like both bald guys, the second from the left just has more of that bulldog thickness to the neck that Horus should definitely have. Marshal Rohr
The one with the sides shaved. Is this the war with the Nephilim? Because I feel like if it's meant to be much earlier in the crusade hair might be appropriate. He shaves his head only after the conflict with the Interex, I think. Marshal Rohr
I approve even if that isn't mentioned. He looks so insanely good with hair. It would show a real character change too. Psychologically when people shave their head randomly without reason it indicates a personality shift. carpediem
I'm torn; I've always written (yes, written; this is related to an un-publishable fanfic epic) Horus as starting out with hair and then rather gracelessly shaving it all off when he realises he's going bald. Marshal Rohr
Can Primarchs go bald? I'd imagine an exchange with Fulgrim ribbing Horus about it would be funny to read. I think Tarik would have one or two things to add to that conversation if he was still around! carpediem
My explanation for why a bloke who seems to be trying to emulate the E as far as possible (seriously; look at that weapons choice) might have anything less than all his hair by the time of the Heresy. Besides, given the sorts of weirdness that family seems to support I can't imagine premature balding drawing much comment (I'll try and write in the Fulgrim/Toraggadon scene, though; sounds fun) Back on topic: head 1 or head 2, and I rather like that tabard, but the armor needs a proper lunar wolves sigil somewhere. dustermaker
Your drawings look very good so far! I think of the movie the 13th warrior and Vladimir Kulich as the perfect person to play Horus. I know he is always portrayed with a shaved head, but I still picture him with long hair. Kais Klip
As much as I'd like to avoid starting a movie thread, I disagree dustermaker, I fail to see a Horus there. Maybe he's behind Leman Russ with those golden dreadlocks worth their weight in casting gold :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283596-horus-lupercal-character-design/page/2/#findComment-3545861 Share on other sites

I've never read or heard about Horus growing his hair, or shaving it, and I re-read the first three heresy books a few weeks ago. While I do disagree with the image of Horus having a haircut to shave, he was campaigning for something close to 100 years before the Heresy, and 100 years is a long time for fashion, eh :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283596-horus-lupercal-character-design/page/2/#findComment-3547224 Share on other sites
Tyrannicide
This might be a little too outside of the box thinking, but hair does grow and people tend to cut it every now and then.
