Who are the unpopular ones?

A friend and I were discussing the different Legions, what would be played. I see a LOT of Death Guard, World Eaters, Sons of Horus for the traitors. As for the Imperials I've mostly seen Ultramarines more than anything. Now of course the lack of books hurts the good guys,

BUT who do you believe are the ones under represented in forum posts, blogs ete.

To be honest: any not yet covered in one of FWs Horus Heresy books.

Large amounts of Death Guard, World Eaters & Sons of Horus? All 3 covered in Betrayal.

Plus there was a massive rise in the number of Night Lord & Iron Hands 30k threads with the release of Massacre.

Basically: people don't want to start a Legion when they dont yet know which unique units & rites of war they'll get. Plus the FWs heresy books are badass, and look at all them sweet Legion-specific models.

Obviously some legions are gonna be less popular than others, but this seems subject to change with FWs releases: the Iron Hands seemed to be a relatively unpopular Legion, but look at how well - recieved Ferrus & the IH legion squad were.

Every Legion has its fans, back in the Old Tempus Fugitives Campaigns Ultramarines and Word Bearers were the Stand out unpopular choices but things come and go, at one point you couldnt move for Thousand Sons players but then the next book comes etc etc... Especially with Forgeworld giving things the "official" stamp and exploding interest!

Playing without traits is a sod though, Having a Huge Alpha Legion Army, a Big White Scars army and a Brand new Iron Warriors army im looking forward to Easter!

All of the most popular Heresy armies coincide with the Legions present at Istvaan III. Coincidence? Probably not.

Wait until all Legions have had books released, then we can see who wins the (un)popularity contest.

Funny, I have seen a lot of Imperial Fist armies lately. Almost no Dark Angels though.

Nobody's unpopular, per say. It's just that people prefer a Legion that's more fleshed out. We now have 8 of the 18 Legions that can use their own unique rules and units. Even then, Massacre has only been out for maybe a month. We've yet to see many Salamanders forces, and I haven't seen a Pre- to Mid- Heresy Word Bearers army yet. Give it time, everyone will have their day in the sun.

Model Availability does have an impact too, with the abject lack of Salamander love our joint Sallies project lost momentum and weve ended up expanding existing armies or in my case doing iron Warriors mostly because of a certain thread on this very forum...
