The_Chaplain
(Mods feel free to move this, I wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the BT forum since it is neophyte related primarily) Dear brothers, the holiday season is quickly approaching and some of us are doubtlessly padding out our holiday wishlists. I figured I'd take the opportunity to add a scout box or two since I dont have any neophytes at present; but I am struck with a certain dilemma... ...The plastic scout models are hideous! They suffer from mono-pose and same face (that horrible, ugly face. Whoever sculpted those faces needs some jail time, they're that criminal to the senses). So, has anyone converted the plastic scout box to look a little more akin to the metal models of yore? Or, given the models a cosmetic head swap and it actually turned out all right? If so, can someone provide links to some completed conversions/tutorials/etc? In particular, I'd like to know how to convert the old metal model style "mini" chainswords- since the big honkin' bowie knives on the plastics just do not do it for me, at all. The_Chaplain
Appreciate the link Aquilanus, but its not quite what im looking for- still trying to keep the scout armored torso. Also the power armored heads look kind of off on the scout frame. The link is appreciated though brother, getting the ball rolling! Seleucus
Catachan or Cadian bare heads work fine with just a little GS around the neck. Durus
Yeah most of GW's heads should work fine on scout bodies. I think I've seen some Dark Angels conversions using the Bretonnian Peasant Bowmen heads, if you are going for the medieval knight look. It's also worth looking into aftermarket products there are a lot of different manufactures of 28mm heads (Speaking of medival these kinda look like they are wearing arming caps). In terms of looking like the old metal scouts the only thing that comes to mind would be these heads from Victoria Miniatures. They remind me of the old metal shotgun scouts with respirators on. They are also exactly the same size as the old school SM heads. The only other heads from her range I have to compare them to are the bald gas mask heads, but the gas mask heads are a little close to old IG Perry metals in terms of size, i.e slightly smaller than the chem mask heads. The only thing remotely close to the regular scout heads I can think of is this. Would need to have some hair added for the classic look, though. +edit+ Just wanted to add that the IG sergeants have chainswords that are a little smaller than the average SM bits. The more common bowie knife style chainweapons could probably be made out of an ork boy's choppa if you remove the teeth at the back and carve the curve into the back of the blade. But I rember Naaman carrying around a straight smaller version of the normal chainsword, i.e. just like the IG ones, so there's even an official precedent for that. The_Chaplain
Durus, Emperor bless you because those Victoria Miniatures heads are perfect! Just last night I was thinking how cool vostroyan style gasmask and goggles would look on scouts; and you've essentially provided just that (sans the big fuzzy hat of course). Cheers brother. I'll give the IG range a look and see if those chainswords work scale wise, and look further into the ork thing. Thanks for the posts so far guys, much appreciated!
