Legion equipment, armour, and other pedantics

So I was reading up the rules for terminators for the Legions, and I was wondering if the 40k era termies were around in HH, because it says termie squads can either be in Cataphractii or regular TDA. Any info there?

Also, is the Godwyn pattern bolter available heresy era?

I am about to embark upon making a Pride of the Legion army, of pure Terminators myself. As a rule of thumb, I am avoiding Indominus Terminator plate at all costs, and sticking with pure Cataphractii and Tartaros plate. There's no real solid info on when the Indominus came about, but.... it just doesn't jive with the 30K look. Personal preference of course.

The Godwyn came into full scale production about the same time as the Mk. VII plate, but I could see a few 'prototype' models running about, here and there.

*rereads his post* So, yeah.... I'm no help, lol.

Indomitus was present in the GC/HH, but it was a rarity.

If the Godwyn was produced alongside the Mk VII, then it will only feature with the Defenders of Terra as Mk VII began production on Terra after the Schism on Mars and would not become widespread until after the Heresy.

Ferrus Manus was responsible for pioneering Indominitus Armor. Gorgon Terminators wear it. IIRC it was supposed to bridge the gap between The speed of the tartaros and the protection of cataphractii by using a stronger force field than the tartaros had while keeping its speed.

Yep, this tidbit is in HHmHH: Massacre

Yes and no. Pretty dang close though.

Ferrus Manus did create the Indomitus.

The Gorgons use their own unique pattern-variant of the Indomitus. Instead of field generators, it[Gorgon-Pattern] uses an experimental system that converted incoming electromagnetic and kinetic energy into light-flashes that could incapacitate and maim nearby foes.

However, its agility was limited due to heat and electrochemical toxin bleed, which required in users having to undergo a high level cybernetic rebuild to endure, which was no problem for the Tenth.

"I just flew in from Terra, and boy, are my arms tired from holding slip for 100 meters in full rattle into the rocky, frozen ground."

Yeah. I wouldn't make a very good comedian.

Im sure there would be alot of Irony coming from a IV legion comedian....

A few page references.....

Godwyn Pattern bolter - Betrayal P126 - a nice picture of 3 marines carrying Godwyn Pattern bolters.

Anvilus Pattern Backpacks (you know, the 40K Chaos Marine ones) - Betrayal P131 - listed as a prototype

Indomitus Terminator Armour - Betrayal P237 - lists 3 variants of TDA (Cata, Tartaros, Indom) as all being available during the latter part of the Crusade

Four variants, actually. Specifically, "Several different Terminator armour patterns were developed roughly concurrently by different Forge Worlds during the later decades of the Great Crusade, including Indomitus, Tartaros, and Saturnine patterns, most of which were functionally identical." That, plus Cataphractii gives us four, then add in Gorgon-pattern from Book 2 and you're up to five.

Anyone have an idea what Saturnine pattern Terminator armour looks like? X3

My guess (and I stress guess) is that Saturnine pattern is/was/will be the egg shell shoulder design. Check out Dark Rage's excellent scratch build here or my own rather uninspiring painting of the original model here.
