Can two units on the same team intermingle models?

I can't find anything in the rules to support or deny intermingling. Hoping someone might have seen something I missed.

I believe that as long as unit coherency is maintained then it's fine.

 

My question is, why? What advantage does it offer? :)

There's nothing to stop it, as long as both units remain in coherency themselves.

 

I saw this once in 5th, used to give both units Cover Saves, from each other.

 

Edit: This still works in 6th, but works both ways;

 

 

if a model fires through the gaps between models in an intervening unit, the target is in cover, even if it is completely visible to the firer.

 

Potentially useful for Tau or Legion of the Damned, I suppose.

It can help .against assaults, I believe. Your opponent has to make a disoriented (?) Charge or assault two units and get shot with twice the volume of fire.

Not at all. He only has to charge the unit he declared it against, and only be overwatched by that unit.

But if he can't get in base to base with one unit without touching another, he must multi charge.

That would be difficult to force. The rules say you can't be b2b with a unit you aren't charging so you'd have to stay away. At best you'd be reducing the numer of models in b2b.

 

In regards of a cover save to shooting Commander Shadowsun would give her unit a 4+ cover save while in the open!
