Erik Morkai's Great Company -army project (name change)

Entering my 25th year in the hobby now, so I hear ya'.  Just four armies for me, though (well five, actually, since I have two separate Grey Knights forces - one done in 3e with all of the old metal models, and a separate army of the new 5e plastics).  I actually need to unload two of the armies, but really hate to sell them at a loss.

A quick bit of modelling and undercoating.  Here is my version of Erik Morkai who is going to be the Wolf Lord of my Great Company.

I used bits off the wolf pack, the axe and horn off the Wolfguard terminator sprue, a Warhammer Fantasy dwarf banner, some old space wolf bits I had for some reason, a buckler shield from dwarves, an axe (on his hip) and shield from chaos marauders.

Its a bit hard to see but he's wielding two axes as a true warrior should.

Cheers.  You can never have too large a collection.

Here is the lord halfway through his paint job.  I'm not really sure what to do with the banner any suggestions wolf brothers?  As you may start to see I like my models dark and dirty.

Ah summer is over.

I've been at the beach and off camping so no painting.  But a painting blog demands action right? What I have discovered is the Space Wolves models are incredibly detailed.  This means my painting is so much slower this time around compared to when I did my Blood Angels 2nd company. I keep thinking I’ve finished this 10 man pack when I see yet another detail which requires some kind of additional painting.

So here’s two very poor quality photos for which I apologise. The light was poor, hence the lack of close ups.

The first is my first Grey Hunter pack, armed with 2 flamers, a power sword and a Wold Standard.  In the background is one of the Blood Angel drop pods I decided to bring across to this army.

The second is my Great Company’s Wolf Priest. He’s armed with a combi-flamer and will primarily be slotted in with the 15 man Blood Claw pack which is my next target.  This will then give me a table legal army; 1 Lord, 1 Priest, 10 man Grey Hunter in pod, 15 man Blood Claws on foot – I can squeeze this into 750pts.

Yes fairly far south, Brisbane Australia.  I sound like I'm complaining summer is over but it's still shorts and t-shirt weather here and will be for another month or so.

Long way to go on this army as my MBA classes have just restarted for the year and I start  a new job tomorrow.

Nice job on the minis.

When does it get to cold to wear shorts and t-shirts?

The mailmen where I used to live, just south of the polar circle, stopped using shorts and t-shirts in october, usually around 5+ Celsius.  They were mad, I use to put on trousers when the quicksilver dips below 10+ Celsius.

It's such a subjective thing.  I grew up in Tasmania, that island off the south of mainland Australia,  where it snows fairly often but nothing like north america. There I could go with shorts for most of the year down to 10 degrees c.  Now I live in a sub-tropical climate the moment it dips below 20 degrees c the track pants and ugg boots are on.

Nothing like Fenris though.  They would laugh at our puny warm planet.

My rule of thumb is shorts stop when there is snow on the ground. But I am crazier than most when it v ones to these things.

What no action?  Kind of... I've started on my 15 Blood Claws with their base coat done along with yellow and white shoulder pads all complete.  But I  have to admit to despairing at the level of detail on the Space Wolves models.

My Solution?  Go and paint a whole other army.  Cause starting another project is a guaranteed way to complete the current project right?

  • 2 years later...

Some actual moment here.  I left off this army nearly three years ago and have finally come back to it.  In between then and now I have painted the following full armies:

  • Sisters of Battle - 80 models
  • Nurgle army - 60 models
  • Arbites - 60 models
  • Imperial Knights - 3 models
  • Prussians (15mm) - 150 models

I also added another couple of colours to my Orks which is another 150 odd models and is a project I've slowly been working my way through for about 5 years.

So here are a few more units I pumped out over the last few weeks.  For my long fangs I used the missiles off the rhino sprues. I also tried dry brushing as I felt the all turned out too dark.  that was a great option so i went back and did the models i had already finished.
