tylertt
Hello Ultramarine Brothers. Was wondering what everyone thought of this book? Was putting together a list of gifts I would enjoy for my wife this Christmas, and this book couldn't help but catch my eye.Did everyone enjoy it? Was it well written? I have read some of Nick Kyme's work before and really enjoy his writing for the Salamanders. Ethrion
Fantastic book until the end...when it just abruptly stops seemingly mid-narrative. Apart from that, awesome book. tylertt
Sweet thanks. Been reading a bit more about it and it definitely is a book I want to add to my collection. Also leaning on the Ultramarines Omnibus' as well. Ethrion
Some people have real issue with the manner in which the Ultramarines are portrayed in McNeil's omnibus but I think as long as you view it as a Gotrek and Felix in space type novel then it's good. tylertt
What would be a good book to represent the Ultras? I've read some Horus Hersey novels with them and love the characters of them. I really want to read more about them in their own novel. Ethrion
Well, 'Know No Fear' is pretty epic from an Ultramarine standpoint...but avoid 'Battle for the Abyss' like the plague... Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
I picked it up just after it's release and to be honest, I just couldn't get into it. At least not yet. I am currently reading the Battle of the Fang, Horus Rising, and then I threw that onto the pile... Plus I have like, a million models to build, prime, and paint. You all know how it goes!! So to summarize: My post told you very little about the book and whether or not you should put it on your xmas list... :P End of Line Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283875-space-marine-battles-damnos/#findComment-3534353 Share on other sites
Kasper_Hawser
Personally, not a lot of characterisation (not there is not, if you like Sicarius this is pretty much a good book to get insight on his character). I didn't finish it beyond the first quarter, but even then there was far too much "bolter porn". If you like big battle descriptions, then go ahead. For me I go for character drama. Which there is a bit but not enough. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283875-space-marine-battles-damnos/#findComment-3554229 Share on other sites
d715
Read it back when it was just Fall of Damnos, and minus the lack of falling (and the Black Reach refs) I enjoyed it and its what made me like Cato in the first place. Haven't read Spear of Macragge yet since I'm reading Assault on Black Reach right now since they talk about the events a lot so I figure it might help. tylertt
Yeah my wife got me the book for Christmas. Got to finish up the Space Marine Omnibus book first then I shall start Damnos. Extremely excited for that book though! From what little I've read about Cato, I enjoy his character thus far. Ishagu
I didn't like the book... after the brilliance of Eisenhorn, Ravenor, Horus Rising.... There were a few cool moments, but I felt the whole thing was written to sell models. Conn Eremon
Those were written by Dan Abnett, not Nick Kyme. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/283875-space-marine-battles-damnos/#findComment-3566820 Share on other sites
