Farsight

Tau Commander
X2 Riptides w/ melta guns
X2 units of fire warriors
X1 unit of Kroot
X1 unit of three crisis suits with missiles
Mission was Emperor’s Will, with Vanguard deployment.

I won the roll to go first. With all his Ap2 interceptor shenanigans, I chose not to deepstrike. I deployed most of my force behind a hedge at the back of my deployment zone, with one unit of sanguinary guard, Dante and the terminators near my backfield objective. He deepstruck farsight and one riptide together. Otherwise, he had one unit of kroot and firewarriors to my far left and mostly everything else forward of my forces. First turn was night fight and he did not steal.

Dante cursed Obessa (one less wound). My assault squad and the terminators succumbed to Blood Rage.

Turn 1

Not wanting to deal with his riptides right away, I decided to focus on killing his troops (which would be far easier). Termintors, Dante and one priest wandered into some woods to distract his riptides, while the rest of my force zoomed to behind Skull Mountain. My librarian failed to cast Wings of Sanguinus (yay?) so lumbered behind my faster troops.
One unit of Sanguinary Guard held back onto my object. TURN DONE!

He shuffled some things around a bit and then focused on shooting me. Due to my spectacular ability to pass Inv. Saves, I only lost two terminators to both riptides shooting at my terminators, while the combined firepower of the kroot, suits and firewarriors killed one assault marine.

Turn 2

I split the priest and Dante from the terminators, all who lumbered (or jumped) towards the Riptides). Otherwise, I charged firewarriors with the assault marines and the kroot with my librarian and sanguinary guard. Needless to say, he lost both combats and my Blood Angels spent the rest of the phase shuffling in the piles of gore which used to be tau and kroot.

Unsurprisingly, Farsight and his riptide friend arrived immediately. They dropped in next to my objective-squatting guard squad and shot them almost dead (two left). Otherwise, the remaining fire warriors killed one of my Sanguinary Guard, one riptide killed the rest of the terminators. However, Dante being a total boss passed every S8 wound launched at him (much to my opponent’s chagrin).

Turn 3.

Dante charges into the Riptide/Obessa/commander unit, while the assault squad charge the last firewarrior unit (with the librarian and priest). I had two Sanguinary guard die charging Farsight, while the other unit launched themselves towards my opponents objective. The firewarriors all died. Dante lost a wound to a drone and Obessa and pals failed their Hit and Run roll.

Farsight and his riptide launched themselves towards the center of the table and fired at my last sanguinary guard unit, but with pretty atrocious shooting, I only lost one model. The crisis suits went to run away from my assault squad and killed a couple with shooting too. In the protracted Dante Vs the world combat, he scored a wound on Obessa and suffered none in return.

Turn 4

The Sanguinary Guard hide behind the building to capture my opponent’s objective, while the assault squad (and the rest of my army) charge into the Riptide/Obessa/Commander versus Dante combat. This results in me winning combat by three, him failing morale and being swept (what a nice way to kill off two HQ choices and a Riptide). I consolidate Dante away from the Assault Squad, to limit the negative affect of S8 Ap2 large blast templates :/

Dante Finally falls to shooting (from the remaining riptide), while the librarian takes a wound from Farsight’s plasma rifle.

Turn 5.

I do what’s right, and charge into Farsight and pal. I deal a wound to the Riptide, but Farsight is really good at carving up marines and I loose combat…But, I’m fearless, so I stay in.
In his turn, his suits desperately run towards my objective, hoping for a 6th turn…Which does not come.

The game ends with my controlling one objective to his zero. He has slay the warlord, but I had first blood (kroot/firewarriors). We both had line breaker. So, 4-2VP, for a Blood Angels victory!

I really like how my army worked, but the terminators were more-or-less useless. The only thing which they were useful for, was their Inv. Save, which I can create with Sheild of Sanguinus for any of my units. Blood Boil (although cool in theory), I only ended up casting once to kill a tau firewarrior. I’ll most likely switch it out later for shield. His army was pretty mean and I had outstanding luck, compared to his awful luck (his smashing riptides never scored a hit against Dante in combat, even though even one of those wounds would have killed him dead). I’ve never used assault squads before (always used pure Sanguinary Guard), but I really liked them! I might need to add in another unit to switch out for one of my guard squads (or most likely the terminators).

My opponent was also a pretty awesome guy. If the dice worked out more evenly, the game should have been his, so I'm pretty thankful the dice gods let me win ha ha.

Anyway, Thanks for reading!

its been a while since ive seen a good battle with good descriptions and good pictures. thank you for that. Killing Tau is the best feeling i can think of in a 40k game, they just have so many tools... congrats on the win. and for posting it in the reports forum where we all get to see it. May your Blood Angels stay in the emperor's favor evermore!

Cheers. I sometimes wish some of them were a bit less squishy to kill though, so I didn't wipe the squad out the same turn I charge ha ha. The Riptides are pretty tough though. They worry me quite a bit. Thanks for the read and I'll be sure to keep posting reports of the games I play.
