Advent Calendar and the Unforgiven

GW DE For this month is releasing one dataslate everyday until Xmas...

We Know trough rumors that the xmas dataslate should be about Cypher...

Do you think that we Will get some attention from GW or we Will be forgotten as Always???

If there Will be some dataslate For the DA what would you like to see???

(IMHO we Will get just Cypher that is just a Fallen so technically it's For CSM not For DA)

Cypher would be pretty cool, but I still think all the fallen stuff goes better with C:CSM rather than DA.

I'd love to see something for the High Interrogator (head of the reclusium).  Sadly we've already wasted two named chaplains with crummy rules and costs, so I'm not sure we'd see a THIRD possible chaplain.

We've already been given the Tau Firebase Support Cadre, what more do we want? I mean, come on, all of our anti-air, anti medium vehicle and anti infantry firepower packaged into a nice easy 700 point detachment. All we have to do is add in Sammy and Black Knights for the TEQ and meltabikers for the AV14 and we're all set.....

.... see you all after my upcoming very long stint in Chamber 42..... whistlingW.gif

Sooo; a Precience ]I[ 'leading' some Tau, in support of Sammael leading RWBKs with minimal RWAS meltas and MMABS for the win?

Wrong thread but I'd rather they made a Dreadnaught detachment (and made them worthy again) than put dirty Xenos in with my nice clean DA. :P

Edit: And I guess if neither ]I[ nor Tau count as detachments then we could add some IG Vendettas with plasma Vets in there too.

MishMashMuch?

Just a side note :

Today is the release of the Storm wing datasheet. ie : 2 storm talons and one storm raven.

The good thing : this small paragraph in the formation description

« Formations do not count as your army’s Allied Detachment, even if they are made up of units from a different codex to your Primary Detachment, and they do not stop you from taking an Allied Detachment in the same army. However, the Levels of Alliance rules from the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook do apply to them and units chosen from a different codex that are in the same army. »

It means that I can paint 2 talons and one raven in green and play them as a storm wing formation.

Better : I can use the magnetized aspect of my nephilims/dark talon and mount the storm talons weapon to use them as a fluffy "count as"

Drawback : still cannot use the transport capacity of the storm raven.

The extra special rule (Strafing Run for the StormRaven whilst both of the Talon's are alive) is actually pretty pants unless you habitually run a Typhoon missile launcher on your raven, as all but the Stormstrike missiles are twin-linked. However, both Talons are counted as escorts for the Raven, which means that you are guaranteed to have all 3 flyers arrive on the same turn. Add an ADL with Comms relay to sort out your reserve rolls (or even IG allies with an astropath) and you can be pretty sure that they'll arrive on Turn 2. In fact, IG allies with 3 Vendettas plus a Stormwing Formation almost guaranteed to enter play on Turn 2 is pretty scary!

:) I'm not sure GW's minds work that way FB - but exciting news on Cypher nonetheless. Let's hope it's more than the Chapter Approved rules from a few years ago simply rehashed.

But I doubt the narrative on him will move forward any great distance. But loved to be proved wrong on that <_< .

Cheers

I got to read 'Azrael: Protector of Secrets' from the Advent Calendar.  It's by C.Z. Dunn, from whom I was hoping for something better than 'Pandorax'.  I'll keep the synopsis brief and in spoilers.

Azrael leads the Deathwing alongside the Ninth Godesian Battlegroup in the final battle to suppress the sedition of Exemeter VII.  The Godesians must have done well by the Dark Angels on this year-long campaign, as they have been afforded the privilege of attaching the winged sword emblem on their own banner.  Azrael, Balthasar, Mendrion, Major General Thaddeus Abasalom (the commander of the Godesians and a Lord Commander by title), and ten men of the general's bodyguard go to find the traitor commander.

The party run into a group of rebels wearing suicide vests.  All are slain except for one.  While his two Deathwing brethren and the Godesian bodyguards all reload their weapons (go figure), Azrael attempts to shoot them with Lion's Wrath.  Amazingly, the weapon inexplicably fails - both the boltgun AND the plasma portions.  Absalom shoots the last traitor in the head with a pear-handled autopistol.  Azrael instructs Balthasar to record in their annals that the major general saved the Supreme Grand Master's life.

When they enter the governor's abode, the traitor commander ends up being - you guessed it - a Fallen.  The revelation of the traitor governor's identity "... was entirely unexpected, save, perhaps, to [Azrael, Balthasar, and Mendrion.]"  The Fallen certainly doesn't think it's coincidence that the Dark Angels are there, though, and openly questions which other Fallen broke and gave him away.

Azrael immediately kills Absalom while Balthasar and Mendrion kill off the general's bodyguards.  Azrael then communicates to the Deathwing that "Caliban Protocols are in effect" and orders for all the Godesians to be killed.

On the one hand, I hope Azrael didn't know what they were getting into, because if he did... he's a dishonest sadist, pure and simple.  On the other hand, if he didn't know who their target really was then we're talking about an unbelievable coincidence.

My guess?  Dunn wanted to write a short story that reinforces the Dark Angels theme ("We'll do whatever we need to in order to keep our secrets!").  Nothing wrong with that.   At least one of the details in this three-page story was ludicrous, though...

I mean, really?  One of the defining relics of the Dark Angels misfiring... twice... and no reason given?!?

... and not enough thought was put into ensuring that the two central elements of the story supported each other.

Why would Azrael lead the Godesians into the headquarters of a suspected Fallen?  I simply don't buy the idea that the Dark Angels responded to a rebellion, that they had no idea a Fallen was leading it, but that one of them coincidentally happened to be there.

Well it's a short story that is just retelling yet another rather stereotyped oooo-we've-found-some-fallen tale. We are of course well used to this but for someone new to the hobby or with little DA knowledge then it all might sound fresh and exciting.

And of course it's cheap.

:erm:

Who am I kidding? The story sounds like first rate rubbish and I shan't be buying it. I just hope the Sammael one comes up trumps.

Agree with Phoebus 100%; I enjoyed it at first, but the more I thought about it afterwards the less sense it made.

Thanks for that Phoebus brother, I guess that is Dunn in a nutshell...moronic

The sad thing is is that I think Dunn is capable of so much more. I really enjoyed both Malediction and Trials of Azrael, and I don't think Dark Vengeance was actual as bad as people say it is. Haven't read Pandorax yet but it seems to have split most down the middle.
