30k or 40k?

Even Slaanesh isnt an issue, as the whole dying race bit isnt about their inability to grow numerically, but the fact that their culture, their operational methods, are no longer valid. In such as way as the human race would be dying, not because of lack of numbers, but because the Great Crusade failed, due to the heresy.

This thread seems to evidence that we all feel some unmistakable feeling that settings each have qualities we like and elements we see are missing somehow. I think we see a 30k that is filling out nicely but lacks the scope to show that same development peripheral of the main story of the Heresy and as a result I think we all see that the 40k setting doesn't reflect that effort.... yet smile.png

My thoughts on this vary from day to day but I can tell you that I think Forgeworld has missed a huge opportunity to do the Grate Crusade, building out the fluff giving the alien races a bit of love, but more importantly build out the legions (fluff and unit wise) and allow us the collect our forces and then roll into the Heresy. This will allow them to add new units as the traitors turn and the imperials respond. but that's just my musings. I think that 40k is moving into the main stream so GW can push product, I think there is going to be a little fall out by them flooding the system in a manner (from the outside looking in) that is unfocused and erratic.

Actually, with the exception of the xenos, that is exactly what they're doing. They've put out the original Legion organization, so far every Legion has been given background from its inception to the event(s) the book is covering as well as special units.

Take the Emperor's Children for example. The Palatine Blades are a GC-era formation. They're in Betrayal. We see Noise Marines in Fulgrim at Istvaan V. So in Massacre, the EC get the Kakophoni to go along with the development of the Legion.

The next book will only be Istvaan V Cont'd an the Battle of Phall so we'll only be seeing GC-era Alpha Legion, Imperial Fists, Iron Warriors and Raven Guard. We shouldn't see any developed units since no new units have been developed. Although that doesn't mean we won't see any "new" units for the other Legions.

As Night Lord player it's hard for me to even look at 40k CSM codex, and I recently found that I don't want to play 40k at all. All those terrible models like Heldrakes, Centurions, Riptide, new Chaos, Necrons and Wraithknight really kill all 40k flavor I love.

30k is more serious, more structured and stylish than last 40k releases. I wish FW would make a couple of books about Great Crusade.
