NoPityNoRemorseNoFear
Question: A scout squad in a land speeder storm, does it get the 12" movement for it's scout move?If this is the case then surely it is a great possibility for the first turn charge, 12" scout, move 6, disembark and move another 6, fire your blind weapon from the storm and then charge, no matter what you are fighting, if they fail their I check then it is 5's for them to hit and 3's for you! you could even improve on this by giving them a melta bomb to pop a transport if there is one near the front! If this is possible then I might be buying a few storms to tie up necrons or tau, each with low I. Disruptor_fe404
I've never had to look it up (since I rarely use them), but doesn't a Scout move preclude you from charging in the first turn? Or is that condition absent for the passengers? shandwen
Doesn't the transport get infiltrate from the scouts also? I'm rather iffy on 40k rules as i've played fantasy far more... I've ran mine with a combi-flamer on the sgt, a heavy flamer on the LSS and bolters. I plan on getting another box of scouts to have enough shotguns at some point, as that will be a nasty gunship for a low point cost. Magpie
The Land Speeder Storm is now a dedicated transport for the scouts so the scout will confer to the Speeder but the Speeder has Scout anyway so ....... It will get Infiltrate off them if they are embarked on it, again as it is a dedicated Transport. You won't be able to charge tho', as Disruptor points out if you scout you can't charge. Spacefrisian
You cant charge if you go first, but nothing is preventing you from charging if you go 2nd. Unless you face an opponent that scouted, while you go first and didnt use that move. Than you can charge. Hymirl
Passengers will not give a vehicle infiltrate. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284099-scout-squad-in-a-land-speeder/#findComment-3537236 Share on other sites
Magpie
Passengers will not give a vehicle infiltrate. "If a unit with Infiltrate is deployed inside a Dedicated Transport, they may Infiltrate or Outflank along with their Transport, but if they do, they must deploy/move onto the table embarked within it." :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284099-scout-squad-in-a-land-speeder/#findComment-3537246 Share on other sites
Disruptor_fe404
Unless you face an opponent that scouted, while you go first and didnt use that move. Than you can charge. I like it! Now the question is: what can a 5-man Scout unit reliably kill, or alternatively, what can a 5-man Scout unit reliably tarpit for more than a turn? The meltabomb suggestion is a good one, but personally, I would be somewhat hesitant about most anything else. Magpie
I don't think cc is a Scout's forte. If your opponent was a nite lax you might be able to use them as a hit squad against a squishy warlord. Thinking Tau, maybe Eldar. Emperors Immortals
Nice idea, I know a Fireblade who might like a flaming speeder full of death. Nice tip. VoteForPedro
I run one Scout/ Land Speeder Storm squad at 1500 points and have found them very effective! I do use Sentinels of Terra chapter tactics so that slightly influences my equipment choices. Generally I go with: Land Speeder Storm - Heavy Flamer 5x Scouts, Bolters, Sergeant with Combi Melta. Can chuck in a melta bomb if points allow. I almost always outflank the unit as it's far too squishy to be on the board from the start. I use the squad primarily to grab objectives, the speed of the Storm is perfect for objective grabs or going for Linebreaker. The unit is also really good at getting rid of enemy 'chaff' units, those small squads that hunker on objectives and don't do a lot else, such as Cultists and Grots. It's a good utility unit, able to take objectives and get to places the rest of your troops can't or shouldn't be going to. It's also cheap and with the Heavy Flamer and Blind template posses a decent threat to your opponent. Silvs
They can outflank in turn 2+ and claim an abandoned backfield objective. This can force your opponent to withdraw some of his forces. Remember, that scouts lying on the ground in area terrain covered in their camo cloaks have 2+ cover save. And you can always release more than one such unit. shandwen
I have found that the use of the jamming beacon often forces me to not scout or infiltrate with this guy, especially if I'm facing a army that has a deathwing squad. That extra D6 scatter scares people bad if they know about the equipment, and often causes worse problems for them if they don't know about it. Scout Mentor
Scout Squads in LSS are AWESOME! They are situational and your list building should have synergy with them to get the most out of them. I use the following in my drop pod army. 5 Bolter Scouts, SGT w/Combi-Melta, Landspeeder Storm w/Multi-Melta 5 Shotgun Scouts, SGT w/Combi-Melta, Landspeeder Storm w/Multi-Melta 5 Scout Bikers, SGT, 3 x Ast. Grenade Launchers The Land Speeder Storms and their crews go after tanks and vehicles with their melta weapons. For each Force Org shot there are two threats - the squad and the vehicle. The Scout units are in the list to provide mobility to the list and increase the alpha strike of the list. I hope that makes sense.
