Blood Angel Allies : Astra Militarum

Preface

Codex: Astra Militarum grants us access to the military might of the Imperial Guard, with great unit choices to complement our more expensive elite units. They can prove us with improvements to reserve rolls, mighty combat buffs and cheap troops. They also make ADL+Comms a lot more interesting.

Noteworthy units

Noteworthy units are units that are not available to blood angels or different enough from our codex entry to warrant mention. Each of these will have a description of it's function and application in a blood angel setting.

HQs

Taking AM as allies unlocks several Force Organization chart free choices, which we will discuss here.

Company Command Squad

The company command squad is the core HQ choice in an AM force. It's versatility and utility are great, along with the assets they unlock. They CCS provides a wide range of accurate special weapons at BS 4 and regimental advisers  to complement any force.

Advantages

- Up to 4 special weapons

- Officer of the Fleet affects all reserve rolls and can seriously delay your opponent

- Provide Orders for your allied contingent

- Can take a Dedicated transport

Disadvantages

- No extra bodies

- Can be singled out

- Can run a hefty price tag if not careful

Ministorum Priest

0-3 Priests are available in an AM force organization slot free. Their Hymns now require a leadership test, but they bring a serious combat buff to the table. Rerolls to saves or wounds caused + zealot is a pretty good deal for how cheap they are. They can turn any BA unit into a whirlwind of gore spewing blender goodness.

Advantages

- Great Combat Buffs

- Great cost efficiency when purchased bare

Disadvantages

- Needs to stay out of arms way

-Leadership test based

Troops

Infantry Platoons/Conscripts

forming the core of the AM regiment, infantry platoons make great, affordable and flexible troops to complement the more elite units BA field. With the ability to combine infantry squads pre-deployment, they can fill several different roles. With the ability to receive orders, they can provide us with long range cover ignoring/Anti-Tank support. Conscripts are even cheaper and can benefit from the presence of a SM character (Saguinary priests will grant them ATSKNF! )

Bringing an ADL with comm-link makes a lot of sense with AM troops to benefit from it's cover and using the comms to improve reserves reliability.

Advantages

- Cheap bodies

- Great support fire

- Access to several special weapons

- Makes bringing an ADL with comm link an asset

Disadvantages

- Restricts pod play/reserves unless units are combined

- Needs a SM character to reliably hold the line.

Veterans Squad

Veteran squads bring a a wealth of special armament at high ballistic skill and have increased resilience should you choose to invest in them. Great for mobile fire bases or camping terrain with camo gear.

Advantages

- Very versatile

- Accurate shooting

- Very mobile special weapons firebase

Disadvantages

-Low body count for meat shields
