Valkyrion
These shiny new paints look fun and I want to try and paint this guy http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/The_Reborn#.UqHIpNJdWSo to see if I can get the effect right. But how would you start? Black undercoat and straight on with the new drybrush rust colour? Maybe something like a silver basecoat and then the drybrush? Any tips would be smashing, ta! Hemal
If you look where rust settlesm it tends to be around joints, in recesses, it flows down with water generally. I would paint a dark base coat, apply the rust and then paint up as normal, avoiding trying to shade to much where the rust sits. That way the rust effect will be underneath the metal layers, so it looks to be peeling away top layers.. MordentHex
Vallejo makes a light and heave rust wash. May be worth looking into. I got the light rust wash myself for Christmas, but have yet to use it yet. Forté
Turquoise paint watered to a wash works well for verdigris. As for rust...look for a tutorial on Ogre Kingdom weapons. They did them without any metallics. All stipling using browns and oranges. From a black undercoat. Look at pictures of old metal. You'll find though that rusty metal won't have verdigis and vice versa because of how they corrode differently. Whoever did the drawing didn't do their homework ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284212-rust-corrosion-and-verdigris/#findComment-3550011 Share on other sites
Hemal
I think the verdigris is caused by the the trim / edging rather than the main armour plate which might be a different rust. I actually think that the armour is a ferrous metal with a brass material for the trim, hence the heavy reddish corrosion on the main plate and the verdigris running from possibly copper cabling and brass trim. Hemal
here's a few examples of ferrous and copper alloy corroding together.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ginparis/7522950598/ http://www.kellocktrading.com.au/catalog/collections/iron-rust-and-verdigris/verdigris-with-rust-anduze-style-urn-1 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284212-rust-corrosion-and-verdigris/#findComment-3550032 Share on other sites
Forté
The plant pot doesn't count as it's a painted finish. The fence was a good example though. Notice how the rust is on one part and the verdigris on the other. DarkMark
Prime with grey or brown Basecoat Fire dragon bright Highlight once or twice Weather with sponge and brush Skavenblight dinge Glaze Lammentors yellow Paint black and bronze parts Shade (carefully) Coelia greenshade I reckon something like this would give a decent result though you may want to add further layers or use different colours etc. Do post results as you don't see these bad boys often!
