valkyrie/vendetta+demolitions veterans

Recommended Posts

Im very new to the guard and im wondering how viable/realiable it is to drop demolition vets across enemy lines via Valkyrie/vendetta and which is more effective overall the valkyrie or vendetta? It may be worth it to note that im running them as allies to chaos marines. Im already very heavy on AT weapons using 6 obliterators, 2 melta guns with a suicide raptor squad, a vanquisher and some bikers with a powerfist.i also have 4 autocannon havocs and a quad gun.
My air assault regiment utilizes the anti personnel loadout of the valkyrie. Multilaser, rocket pods, and heavy bolters. While an effective transport most of the time, it does have some limitations. It can't take on opposing flyers with any realistic hope of success. It can be dropped fairly easy if fire is focused on it. But it can make a mess of lightly armored troops (guardsmen, orks, kroot). Before 6th ed, it delivered demo vets with deadly efficiency. In the new 6th, to be honest I really haven't tried it. But watching others attempt it has been interesting. Its either been feast or famine. Most people using that platform typically kit it for anti armor vendettas. Not necessarily better, just a different kind of target.

I'm not sure if it is worth it, especially as an allied force. It's a lot of points and effort to deliver a Demo charge which could scatter poorly! Marbo is probably a better way to deliver a charge.

You'd be better off with a Valkyrie to keep costs down and hopefully make it slightly less of a target. Aside from the charge how are you going to equip the Veterans?

Well the reason i chose the demo crew was for the 10 melta bombs to be used as a sort of passive anti armor going after armored fortifcations and pressuring landraiders. Personally it serms the vendetta would be better than the valkyrie but i dont really have a lot of anti infantry weaponry outside my obliterators. I do have marbo in my list... hes my favorite character in the 40k universe.

This is my list to give you a better idea of what im taking. Its supposed to be an 1850 list and its still in the works im just trying to figure out the best way to do my IG troops.

65- chaos lord

50- cultist squad

50- cultist squad

115-5 Deathcompany raptors/ 2 melta guns

275- 10 Redscar bikers/ powerfist, lightning claw, icon of vengence

115- 5 longfang havocs/ 4 autocannons

228- 3 deathwing obliterators/ mark of nurgle

228- 3 deathwing obliterators/ mark of nurgle

80- lord commissar/ camo cloak

100- veterans/ demolitions

245- vanquisher/ commander, heavybolter sponsons, camo netting

65-marbo

130- vendetta

100- agis defense line/ quad gun

It seems to me that you don't really have a roll for you IG troop choice so you're trying to put them in your Vendetta (take the Vendetta and magnetize it for a Valkyrie as well) if that is the case then I don't recommend a demo charge (Marbo does it better) but rather flamers; maybe even a heavy flamer. This'll keep the squad cheapish and allow them to contribute to your army in a way that nothing else in your army does (via cover ignoring template weapons that nothing else in the army has.) Keep them in the Vendetta until turn 5 and then have them bail, flame something off an objective, while being close enough to claim it themselves.

in addition, unfortunatle the vanquisher in it's current loadout is just too expsenive for what it will bring to the table (believe me!). in fact, for those points i think you're better off with a landraider, or a leman russ executioner for some lovely plasma goodies!

in addition i would also drop the cultist squads and the lord commissar (and actually even the veterans) in favour for a company command squad and a platoon. the amount of bodies will be similar if not greater, but you can now also add in heavy weapons and can give orders on all non-PA/vehicle models! (not to mention a commissar doesn't reallt fit in with a chaos list, despite what dark vengeance might say!)
