Good day, i am Freddy ... or SilenzZzz ... This thread is going to be a mostly picture guide with random words showing my progress on my new Space Wolves army that i am building up for a local Escalation League that was recently started.

Escalation League Rules

Included in it will be other parts that i will be doing for the League, to get points and so forth. a few of which are also part of one of the forum's Painting Challenges.

Now i do not consider myself a pro painter by any means. i am just someone who enjoys painting.

the first grouping of photo's will be more of  halfway assembled mini's .. as i do not want to completly glue them together till i have the basecoating done ... (i have some Vallejo airbrush primer ordered, along with some Army Painter Spray ordered for the mini's and other items) so some painting will be on hold till those supplies come in ... so sadly till then i will be playing with unpainted ... but hey! i get more points for painting stuff while the league is going so it all works out.

okay, onto the photo's ...

WIP Grey Hunters 1

WIP Grey Hunters 2

Grey Hunters WIP

those boys are the base of my Grey Hunters ... a 10 man squad with a few random others that i started on to change out when needed. or for if i want to break it down into two smaller squads.

WIP Long Fangs

These guys are a recent change to my 500 point army (after the first day and running into so many fliers and AP12 stuff i needed some heavy support)  they are my Long Fang squad.

WIP Rune Priest

and my current Rune Priest. the head of the hammer will likely be cut off soon and something put in it's place.

Space Wolf Themed Objective Markers

Space Wolf Themed Terrain section

These next two photo's are for my Winter Advance entry ... and to fullfill parts of the league as well ... 3 Objective markers and a piece of terrain (still need to figure out what to do for a second piece of terrain) ...

i still have on my shelf a couple of drop pods, some rhino's .. about 50 more troops ... 10 terminators ... some scouts and another devastator squad. but not going to work on them till i need the points and can figure out what i need to add most depending on what others start playing as well.

(others i have seen so far are Orks, Tau, Grey Knights, Dark Angels, Necrons, Eldar, Dark Eldar and IG with some of them being more seasoned players that are running highly competitive 500 points lists at the start)

Just a small update to tie this thread into another one i had started.

my army so far has only been 500 points and basically is this

1 Runepriest

10 Grey Hunters w/ drop pod

5 Long Fangs (1 squad leader, 4 rocket launchers)

still have two more games to try to play this week before it moves up to 750 ...

my plans so far for 750 are

+1 Long Fang (1 rocket launcher)

+1 Lone Wolf (terminator armour) (2 Fenrisian Wolves)

+3 Thunderwolf Calvary

i have the 500 point list assembled and basecoated (other then drop pod, waiting on some magnets to finish it) will update this post with a few photo's in just a bit.

my win / loss so far with 6 games played is 5 wins 1 loss ... (one loss was to a Blood Angels speeder list) (armies won against are Orks 1, Grey Knights 2, Chaos Daemons 1, Tau 1)

i am open to suggestions on other modifications to the list or ideas to try out ... at the moment my purchase budget is a bit low .. but i have some store credit that will be arriving soon that i can replenish my model stock shortly.

there is a Necron and Eldar and Dark Eldar player that i have yet to play against along with some C:SM players to. and most of them are starting to include at least 1 flyer (the Chaos Daemons esp, his HQ is the Lord of Change which i was suprized i won against)

drop Pod

just some WIP photo's of the army ... most of the backpacks are still off so i can get better access to them and the backs ... hope to get more color added to them in the upcoming week.

crusader

and even though i can not use it in the league ... (or even with them for that matter) i felt that my chapter needed a little heavy armor so i picked that up to paint up the same way as my army.

gift

and a random. my friend plays tau .. so i bought him a new unit .. hopefully he does not have it already /smirk

  • 2 weeks later...

Like i posted in the 3ds winter advantage: BT makes the most sense to me

just saw the post .. yeah that would make sense to find it where ever ... going to have the hill section be rocky with a little bit of snow on it ... to match the theme of my army ...

BT would be easy to paint to

made a little more progress ... but will be iffy for the upcoming week ... my wife is going in for surgery on wednesday (early stages of cancer they are hoping to remove and make sure it hasn't started anywhere else) if all goes well then i will be at home for the week with her and painting on and off during it... if it doesn't then who knows... :(

Fen wolf

This is a quick Fenrisian Wolf that i did, (still need to detail the mouth and eyes and lower legs) my wife has been watching me paint long enough that she has started asking how i paint them so i did this showing her how ... she is interested in painting animals and such so will see how it goes with the rest of the wolves i have (3 boxes of em)

runepriest 03

and the Rune Priest from the bits shown above ... mostly painted and assembled ... still need to do some highlighting and a bit more weathering ... but wanted it together to figure out where would look best on the highlights ...  (the head and beard is freshly inked so will be wiping it down soon to clean it back up and then highlights on it as well)

my group of long fangs are getting closer .. as well as the first group of grey hunters ... (though i have lost a head somewhere, it fell off of the sprue i had it glued to while painting ... so i gotta find it or start on another one... darn)

still waiting to be basecoated are another group of grey hunters, and 2 more groups of long fangs... then need to build up a wolf priest or two ... and my other drop pod and the razorbacks.

a little more progress ...

today between running errands and getting ready for wifes surgery tomorrow i have been working on stuff to keep my mind off of things.

the razorback was a model i saved from someone else who had painted it to look like a smurf ... still need to detail on it more and weather it but i am happy with the outcome ...

got the drop pod ready to detail and weather as well.

Fingers crossed for your wife Wolf Brother, it is never a nice experience but I truly hope all goes well.

Back to the hobby however. It's looking great! The environment you are putting together looks nice and the Wolves you have painted so far are looking really good as well

thanks for the words. it has changed my outlook on a lot of stuff ... hoping tomorrow goes by without any issues and we can move forward.

the Wolves (and their xenos enemies that occupy the same table space on my workbench) are my escape, a chance to unwind and forget for a moment while working on them.

I have been through some very similar except not my partner but my ma. The hobby is a god send, its nice every now and then to lose yourself in something like this. It allows you be strong for those people you care about. As above all the best for tomorrow and be proud of your hobby Wolf Brother, its top notch

thanks everyone ... brought her home from the hospital yesterday evening ... and we are now caught up on sleep ... the docs did not find where it had spread anywhere else .. and the tissue samples of nearby areas came back good .. so they just removed the bad parts.

now she has a few weeks to get over the meds and such ... i have a few more days i am off work to stay at the house with her then i have to go back to work.

going to get back to painting later tonight once i get the household stuff done for the day.

thanks again for the well wishes and such for her. she is getting better ... just going to take a bit to get over the surgery ...

do not have any pics yet ... only thing i have done so far is i had to scrap the terrain part i was working on above ... the abs it was mounted on was to flexable and most all of the talus that i had glued in place broke and fell off when a friend picked it up (doh!)

since it was for my winter advance i have decided to unbox two terrain sections i had already on the shelf to paint up for it instead ... so working on a Citadel Wood and a Battlescape. have them both basecoated ...

on the Citadel Wood going to do a fall / early winter theme .. with leaves turning and just a small amount of snow fall .. and similiar on the Battlescape though it is mostly burned up area. will get to coloring them in tomorrow and will take some pics of it then.

ok a quick couple of photo's of the terrain i started painting .... as i said i had to scrap the other one i was working on (salvaged the old rhino off of it to use again though) so pulled these off the shelf to paint up in the theme of my army for the Winters Advance.
