Biker Gang / Motorcycle Club Chapter

So, this idea has been rolling around in my head (pun intended) for a little bit now: a Chapter of Astartes with a Biker Gang (Hell's Angels, ect) theme.  I haven't been able to find anything on B&C in regards to this idea, and I have a hard time believing in is a completely novel concept. But I'd like to put forth a couple of notes and see what the Frater thinks. Authors note: These are unstructured, so bear with me

Founding:  Later half of the Imperium: Post M36

Founding Chapter: Astral Claws (yes... there is a reason for this)

Name: To be determined (though I could go all cliche and label them the Ghost Riders)

-Companies are known as clubs  (Note: most Motorcycle clubs have chapters underneath them... here I am reversing the organizational structure intentionally)

-Chapter is known for their riding skills and brash personality (Chapter tactics Astral Claws fits this nicely)

-The consider themselves rivals to both Dark Angels Ravenwing and White Scars bikers (the only ones who can challenge their skills)

-Actively hunt "Hounds of Huron" warbands (slights at the dishonor of their primogenitor chapter turning to chaos and allows for the biker gang war aspect for the chapter)

-Chapter colors will be black (leather jackets nod) with each club colors and mascot varying.

-Mostly codex in organization, but predisposition to have biker marines. I expect some of the noncodex tendencies to make them untrusted allies of the imperium (on top of their flamboyant and brash nature).

-Significant personal expression in each marine (facial hair, personal heraldry, bike set up, ect)

Now, I am sure many on this board would say this would be easier to be done as a Chaos warband, but I want this chapter to be a loyalist set.

So what does the Frater think to such an idea?

It is quite a cool idea, but can be better implemented by Orks via the Outlaw MC rules for Gorka Morka. The problem, imo, is doing the MC's cuts, they just don't 'work' on SM models, and I don't think painting them black will be enough of a nod. I really don't want to crushyour idea, and the only idea I can come up with is to put a rearward facing back-banner on each bike with the equivalent of the club cut on it.

Cheers,

Jono

How's something like:

Captain Torgaron of the Novamarines could hardly believe what he was seeing.  He had left the hall for five minutes to try to talk reason to this Brother Captain Bargarr and he returned to find tables overturned, chairs smashed, and marines on the ground fighting.

"Sons of Gulliman!"

Immediately, the Novamarines that could leaped to their feet, with a shout of "Praise the Primarch and his Codex!"  The [bikerchaptername]s just stared at him blankly.

"What is the meaning of this?"

"The transgressed the codex, sir!"

"How so?"

One of the interjected.  "I didn't transgress :cuss."

Torgaron turned scarlet.

"Silence!"

The opened his mouth to argue, but catching a glance from Bargarr remained silent and opted for an arcane gesture involving the making of a fist with a single finger raised.

Torgaron assumed it was a variant on the aquilla and a Novamarine continued.

"We were expounding the virtues of the Codex Astartes, on how a marine ought to sit up proudly and not indulge in alcohol, and not focus on bikes.  We said that due diligence might make up for the stain of having a traitor for a progenitor, sir!"

"Then what happened?"

"The told us to go on an outdoor excursion before we'd have to stand on the ride home.  We started to explain that the reason their heretic forbearers had fallen and why their own chapter was of poor reputation was due to the fact that they didn't respect their Spiritual Liege and His codex, and that they ought to get a proper doctrine.  Sir!"

"And?"

"We went to take down their barbarous banners to keep this hall up to codex standard and... they broke an alcohol glass on Brother Eryodis' head and leaped across the table at us."

Torgaron stared at Bargarr, who was leaning on the wall comfortably.

"What do you think of all this?!"

"Well, I hope your boys have learned their lesson.  Now, if you're done wasting our time, we're going to clean up the mess that you left after Badab."

You could give them trophies and chains, though that may make them look a bit more feral than you'd like.

Also, Wild Angels?

Sounds cool cool.png I would say makes bikers their first company, veterans,so they have to earn the right to get their own ride/bike. The rest of the
chapter could just be highly mobile, like the White Scars, each squad could have their own personalised transport and take pride on how it looks and how fast it goes ect ect..

I was about to ask, "Do they have battle tanks? If not, what options do they have when facing enemy tanks, besides running away?" when I had an image of a Space Marine attack bike with a Demolisher cannon crudely mounted in the sidecar.

That said, maybe you can use something similar to the "Deathwind Bike" idea I had for the Steel Crusaders, in which the attack bike's sidecar mounts a Deathwind missile launcher.

Wild Angels?.... that sounds promising. But I was also thinking Astral Riders or the Ullanor Knights.  Though that bit with the Novamarines is actually rather funny.

Banelord: I like that idea about each squad taking pride in their rhino.  I will probably use that.

Ecritter:  Thank you for the referrence.  Though I am unsure if this chapter would treat the Stygian Angels as allies or rivals.

Grotsmasha: That is actually the reason I brought this idea to the Frater.  The more input I can get on this for some of these issues the better.  The backbanner idea is one thing I would never have thought of (and I have plenty of banners since I do not use them for my Black Eagles)

War Hogs?

Wait, I got a better idea.  Every time a Space Marine returns to the homeworld/fleet from a successful Company deployment, he gets to add a little commemorative medal to his armor, as a reference to the patches bikers stitch or iron-on to their vests.

Seriously awesome idea. I was tossing around something like that in my head. I was going to go with white scar successors. I like your idea better. I also like the idea of the First Company being the biker company. The marines of the other companies are like pledges in a real mc. You have to earn your ride and your patch. But if your chapter is at full strength I would think that there would be at least one biker squad in every battle company. Kind of like sub chapters to the parent chapter in a mc club. I like the Idea of black with the trim or right shoulder representing each company. Plus, banners would be very personalized to each company. I also like the above mentioned idea of battle honors or commemorative medals being added to the armor of returning marines. The mc idea would make each "Club" autonomous within the structure of the Chapter, each captain being like the club president. Tattoos are a must but piercings and long hair and beards are also good. The Chapter symbol should remain constant but each "Club" can personalize their own heraldry of course. Each Marine should be able to customize and repair his own bike. Again... great concept!
