Space Wolves and Other Chapters

Here's an interesting perspective...

I theorize that the Space Wolves are defined by their leaders, and the respect and reputation they have in the eyes of others depend on the leadership and qualities of a specific Great Wolf at that specific time.

Other chapters, like Ultramarines and even Blood Angel and Dark Angel, are the same throughout as new Chapter masters live, die, and are replaced, because they follow strict, stable age-old traditions. (kinda like a Prussian army, or an old European unit like the Swiss Guards) (EDIT: or Samurais & Imperial Japanese deriving traditions from bushido after the Meiji reforms)

Space Wolves SET traditions (kinda like the American army, changing profoundly based on the nation's administrations over time), so perhaps that's why Grimnar's Wolves in one millennia might be more rebellious with a warm-hearted Robin-Hood compassion for the ordinary citizens, while Bjorn's Wolves thousands of years past might have been vengeful and guilt-ridden pragmatic arses, or Russ's Wolves being cold and brutal killers, for example.

Thus the Ultramarine might love Grimnar, but might hate, say, Ragnar if Ragnar took over. Whereas, the Ultramarine might like (or dislike) the Dark Angel regardless of who the Grand Master is because that chapter's persona remained consistent through the ages.

Discuss?

Dont know, I see more and more story's about UM commanders that get looked down upon for playing outside of the codex, these are commanders and not troopers. So there is change in the UM these days.

The cultural similarities between the White Scars and Space Wolves aside, I could definitely see Harald Deathwolf and Kor'sarro Kahn getting along very well.  Tabletop-wise, Could you imagine facing 2000pts of Harald Deathwolf and his TWC allied with 2000pts of Kor'sarro Kahn and his bikers?  What a sight!

The Scars e-book made it clear the White Scars do not think very highly of the Space Wolves, or at least didn't as of the Horus Heresy. They hated being compared to the barbaric looking Space Wolves, believing themselves more cultured and refined yet outsiders simply didn't bother to notice.

Overall I'd say the Space Wolves have a moderately favorable reputation amongst the general Adeptus Astartes, after all Logan Grimnar was the supreme commander of the Imperium's forces during the 13th Black Crusade and the defense of Cadia. Only a handful of Astartes chapters refused to follow Grimnar's orders.

It's easier to list the Chapters that do not like the Space Wolves very much. The Dark Angels and their successors, the Red Hunters, maybe the Exorcists, a handful of others. Most Codex Chapters might disapprove of the Space Wolves methods and disregard for the Codex but would not openly spurn a first founding Chapter with a longer roll of honor than most other Chapters, save the other 1st and 2nd Founding Chapters, could hope to match.

I can see how the Heresy era Scars could have easily had that opinion, but I think their acceptance of and compliance with the Codex Astartes did wonders as far as differentiating them from the Wolves.  I think that the long millennia of this very obvious difference is probably enough to ease that feeling somewhat, but I will readily admit that I am not the most well read person concerning the lore of either chapter.

Anyway, I am building the above mentioned formation just for the sheer visual awesomeness of it and in the hopes that I will one day field it somehow.
