Chaeron
The cheapest example I have found (so far) of the model mentioned is £31.46 (excluding p+p), which is very affordable. I'll seriously consider getting one in the new year, as lets face it, anyone who collects minis (regardless of what game system) will eventually want to strip them and start again. The added bonus is that it's not limited to being used just on minis! Excellent find, Brother! Have you got a link Aquilanus so we know what we're looking for? ninjasuperspy
Interesting idea. I've got some BFG ships I bought off of eBay and stripping these things is driving me CRAZY. Kastor Krieg
The Silvercrest is what my buddies got, from Lidl, too. The exact same AEG is what I got and it works, so there, both are fine Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284616-all-your-mini-stripping-woes-are-gone/page/2/#findComment-3548829 Share on other sites

Aqui
Ooh, tempting...!Ain't it? I've been looking at the one on the Lidl site and the price is really tempting, especially as I have 15 Marines that I got off eBay that would be far easier to sort out (excess glue etc) if I used it on them I'll see if I can get a hold of one on Saturday. Assuming I do, I'll be sure to report my findings Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284616-all-your-mini-stripping-woes-are-gone/page/2/#findComment-3548872 Share on other sites
DarkMark
I think Lidl change their stock every week, maybe Thursdays?, so I' grab one of those thingies today if I were you just incase. That, or give them a bell to see how long it will be in. For a score I'm not sure you can go too far wrong, worse case scenario you take it back and say its no good. Off the 'net that'll be a bit trickier. irwit
I got this one and use it to clean my airbrush. Its pretty good, it basically just vibrates a lot. I guess its an easy way for my airbrush parts to take a bath in some cleaner. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultrasonic-Jewellery-Cleaner-Battrey-operated/dp/B00BEY6SNE/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1388137033&sr=8-12&keywords=ultra+sonic+cleaner Not tired for stripping miniatures but im glad I have one for the airbrush. twopounder
I've been thinking about one of these for a while. They're super useful for cleaning firearms, so I figured they would work nicely on models. I generally use alcohol and a toothbrush. Does anyone know if Simple Green is better to use for it than alcohol? A bit less toxic and smelly for sure. The primary models in the US are these guys. Decent price. Harbor Freight has them for $33. Subtle Discord
Damn you people and your excellent finds! *Adds another thing to the list of wanted equipment* I've been meaning to look into one of these, but the prices I was seeing put me off. As has been said, this is so much more attainable for the average hobbyist and will quickly pay for itself in saved miniatures. I am grateful that the forces of Chaos have no qualms with appropriating Xeno technologies for their use. Shadespyre
Interesting stuff. I know all about the use of ultrasonic cleaners from my work (in the metal plating industry), but I never thought the improvement would be so impressive in this case. It's also interesting that plain old IPA is effective, I've been wondering about that for a while as it is one of the main ingredients of Dettol, although it also includes a chlorinated active ingredient which I thought might be doing the heavy lifting as my tests with just leaving a model in IPA for a while were unimpressive. I think we have one of these at the back of a cupboard somewhere, intended for cleaning jewellery and so on, I'll see if I can find it and test it out. Kastor Krieg
Yeah, just use high-grade IPA and use the soak/wash/brush/repeat method, so that more IPA gets to deeper layers of the paint. Aridene
I was following this post when it was active and have finally decided to get a ultrasonic bath for my self. The thing is I am going to get a bigger one that can fit a full rhino in it. ( Really really don't want to have to break into smaller pieces and then also could clean carb's with it.) I am currently away with work and plan to order it so I have it when I get home. My question is what is the dimension of a rhino/vind? irwit
If you're doing that you may as well order one that fits a land raider in it ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284616-all-your-mini-stripping-woes-are-gone/page/2/#findComment-3594419 Share on other sites

A Son of Sanguinius
Does anyone have a before and after picture of a really badly painted model? The first pic in this thread is great as it shows a nice clean "agter", but there is no "before" to use as a comparison. Aridene
That is possible. Does 6" X 4" X 3" for a Landraider and 5" X 3.5" X 2" for a Rhino right? (Numbers are rounded). Subtle Discord
Stock Land Raider = 7.0" x 4.0" x 3.0" and stock Rhino = 5" x 3.0" x 2.0"; (L x W x H), Rounded up to the nearest 0.25", no Sponsons, and it would be a snug fit. Remember, if you're putting a square/rectangle object into a round hole, it will need a diameter moderately larger than the Length of said square/rectangle; otherwise the corners won't fit. Edit: Yeah, give the Rhino the extra 0.5" for an even 5".
