Kilofix
Excluding the Aegis Defense Line, Bastion and Skyshield Landing Pad (which I'm more familiar with); has anyone used the new fortifications like Defense Line, Firestorm Redoubt, Vengeance Battery, Promethium Relay, Void Shield and even the (upgradable version of the) Fortress of Redemption? If so, what's your opinion of them in regular (non-Apoc) games? Including both Eternal War and Siege War. Thanks! Nusquam
I've been using the vengeance batteries for a while. They got better with Stronghold because you can get Quad Icarus Lascannons on them. A friend of mine used the bunker with a void shield and comms relay with IF devs inside, very deadly. I'm excited about the firestorm redoubt. Not only can you upgrade its BS to 3 you can also swap the las out for punishers, battle cannons and even throw on a quad gun. I just bought some cheap plastic pipes and elbows today for a pipe relay. That and the battery platforms make great void shield generators. Warlord Torvold
When it came out I picked up the Wall of Martyrs mega-kit and its been sitting on my shelf in the box for the better part of a year. Only really used it as terrain for games with friends. Now that I can actually use it as a fortification OH BOY am I happy :). The trench bits give stubborn to units in them. The defence emplacement section gives a re-roll on failed to hits with heavy weapons in overwatch. The bunker can hold 20 models and up to 4 models can fire out of each of its front fireports. Yes for a full set up it would be almost the same price as 10man term squad. That is with a quad gun on the bunker and tank traps. I know its expensive points wise but for me well worth the price of admission speaking as an Imperial Fist player. As a side note you should see the look on Treadhead players face when you have tank traps all along your front line stopping his vehicles just a hair over 6 inches away from you. I can not comment on the Firestorm Redoubt or the Vengeance Batteries other than to say I want them. Nusquam
I'm picking up the redoubt today. Everything on it gets skyfire, add a Magos Machine Spirit and shred the skies. Dual punisher gatling cannons will tear up flying MCs, the quad icarus will bring down planes. The thing is glorious. Grey Mage
Im thinking about 1-2 icarus toting vengeance batteries maybe with some tank traps, because it seems like a good time and good anti-air.Its to bad veangence batteries cant take void shields. Nusquam
Icarus VBs are very good and cheap AA. They best part is their range is obscene, you can park them far away and let fly the lasbolts. The downside to that is the tank traps have to be wholly within 6". I tried out the redoubt yesterday, I whiffed against the enemy flyer, hard, but I did zap about 6 combi stern over a few turns. Sturm Moonwolf
I've been using my Redoubt for a pack of my Long Fangs. They can all fire from the fireppoint which is great. I also take the machine magos upgrade, ammo store, an extra purchased Icarus lascannon to put nearby (for my lone wolf) and one of the quad lascannons is a punisher cannon. captain Angel
I am waiting for my tax returns, and then this son of Dorn will have an outstanding defensive line. I cannot wait! The Redoubt is a medium building and can only take 2 upgrades :( I just got the two types of martyr walls, a bunker and a redoubt. Going to fill their shadows with Raven Guard and try 'em out Saturday. Pretty pumped. Sturm Moonwolf
Ah must have read it wrong then, I thought Obstacles and Battlements/Battlefield were seperate from Buildings for the number of upgrades. I'll just scratch off my Icarus then, lol. Seahawk
Ah must have read it wrong then, I thought Obstacles and Battlements/Battlefield were seperate from Buildings for the number of upgrades. No, you read it right; Nusquam is incorrect, as that restriction only applies to the Buildings options, not the Obstacles or Battlements/Battlefield options. A single Imperial Bastion, for instance, can take: - Escape Hatch - Void Shield - 6 Barricades - Gun Emplacement w/ Icarus Of course, it'll be a lot of points, but makes for a tough nut to crack. Personally, I supremely enjoy ammo dumps, for any fortification. Rerolling 1s? Yes please! Combine that with my BS5 Contemptor with twin assault cannons and cyclone...:D. Really handy for any defensive set up. I'd giggle at a Fortress of Redemption with void shields on all parts, doubled up with a generator with extra shields, giving each building 4 shields. That'll require two primary detachments, but when you're Imperial Guard, such things are cheap...:P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284753-opinions-on-new-stronghold-fortifications/#findComment-3559074 Share on other sites
Nusquam
Emplaced weapons on a Firestorm Redoubt have the Skyfire special rule... Punishers are emplaced weapons. While they don't have skyfire normally, on a Redoubt they do. Ok so that's not the rule its "Emplaced weapons on a Firestorm Redoubt THAT HAVE the Skyfire special rule..." My bad! Missed that "that" ha I see where I went wrong with the upgrades, I thought Obstacles and Battlements & Battlefield were a subset of Buildings, not their own entity. Well that makes my purchases even better, so I'm not complaining haha.
