Destroyers during the siege?

Hi all,

I'm in the process of working out my purchases for my first foray into 30k, and inspired by the "In Memoriam" thread I'm working on a loyalist force at the Siege of Terra. This is where I hit my first snag because I really want to include some of the fantastic destroyer models, but I really can't see the loyalists sanctioning the use of phosphex and the like on Terra itself. Added to that I'm not entirely sure the Blood Angels and Imperial Fists even sanctioned the use of Destroyers at all. Best bet is probably the White Scars, but even then I'm not sure whether they'd be deployed.

My current thinking is that given their specially adapted armour and their experience of biological warfare some destroyer units might be specifically tasked with combating the Death Guard. Failing that, do you think the defenders would be willing to concede the horrific damage to parts of Terra in order to stop the Warmaster? Perhaps certain commanders are fatalistic enough to believe that they can't successfully hold the planet and their best option is now to deny it to the enemy.

Essentially I'm just looking for a viable excuse to add such shiny minis to a themed army. Any thoughts?

Actually, I figure Terra would be the one place to do it. I mean, think about it. This is the Last Stand. You either pull out all the stops, or you die. Where else but at the Siege, when the sky was falling and earth itself was burning?

Remember terra isn't some paradise world. In the tens of mellenia between now and then we have a managed to boil away most of the oceans (but not the atmosphere). Plant life is all but none existent (though oxygen levels haven't decreased).

Phosphex and nuclear weapons will have little effect on the environment, though some might argue against using them Inside the palace itself.

I'm planning on converting up some Trench Raiders for my Fists and some Specialized Assault Squads based on the Angels that killed all the Egyptian First Born for my Blood Angels using the Destroyer Rules. The idea for the Blood Angels is they will be called Lamentation Squads (individual brothers are called Lamenters, obviously you see why), and they are reserved for use when the IX legion comes across a culture that violently resists the Imperial Truth, and the legion has no alternative but extermination. Because they Blood Angels are more aware of the tragedy of culturcide than other legions, they 'lament' using them.

I know my Ultramarines are getting a five man squad. They're not exactly the model of the XIII especially considering where they came from. I'll put it this way, no company has any desire to have them in their ranks, and they were often seconded to other legions, staying with the VIII for almost half a century
