dothac83
I know there are books about the Sons of Russ that I would like to read to better understand the chapter. Which books would you guys recommend? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284800-space-wolves-literature/ Share on other sites
Growler67
The Ragnar Saga is quintessential in the Space Wolf Omnibus (via the six individual paperbacks if you wish instead of the 2 omnibus books). I have just started Blood of Asaheim but Thousand Sons and Prospero Burns are back to back HH books from the perspective of the 1K Sons (the dreaded nemesis of the Chapter) and from the Space Wolves in Prospero. The Battle of the Fang is a great one from our early history and also of the venerable Bjorn the Fellhanded. Any of the shorts are good action fillers if you are looking for some appetizers. Have a gander through the rest of this section and you want more detailed input. Quixus
While the Ragnar Saga is pretty light on the Grimdark it is pretty entertaining. The only "problem" about it I think is that we know the protagonist will survive since he is in the Codex. Castellan Michael
I prefer the HH Wolves better than the Ragnar series. Prospero Burns really defines the culture and feel of the wolves, I loved before the book now even more. You also find them in Scars, besides the ones already mentioned. Wade Garrett
The Wolves also play a major role in "The Emperor's Gift", even though the main protagonist is a Grey Knight. Sigvard
Emperors Gift and Blood of Asaheim are very good. Emperor's Gift whilst as mentioned above is from the perspective of a Grey Knight gives a good insight into the events after Armageddon 1 and the reasons why the Space Wolves have huge hatred for the Inquisition. Blood of Asaheim will give you more insight into the internal workings of a Grey Hunter pack and the politics surrounding the return of a Wolf from the Deathwatch Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284800-space-wolves-literature/#findComment-3551699 Share on other sites

Kasper_Hawser
Hope I'm not breaking any rules by listing all the Space Wolves literature I know, read or am aware of. 1) Horus Heresy - Thousand Sons 2) Horus Heresy - Propero Burns 3) Horus Heresy - Tales of Heresy (short story called Wolf at the door) 4) Ragnar Omnibus consisting of six books 5) Emperor's Gift (aftermath of Battle of the Armageddon) 6) Blood of Asaheim (story about a Grey Hunter pack) 7) Short story - Kraken (short story on lone wolf trying to kill a big beastie to redeem himself) 8) Short story - Lone Wolf (short story on Bjorn himself) 9) Short story - Logan (some insight on the great wolf but as I understand, actually is about another character with Logan being major side character) 10) Battle of the Fang (first invasion by Magnus and remaining Thousand Sons) Apparently Wolves are also mentioned in the Scars novels from HH, but only in passing and are not major characters. My best personal recommendation: Battle of the Fang. Not just bolter porn, you got a big battle that are seen from perspective of blood claw, grey hunter, rune priest, wolf lord and wolf scout. May seem like a lot of characters in one book, but Chris Wright managed to do a very good job in integrating the whole thing. Best character appearance is of course, Bjorn and surprisingly, the primarch of the Thousand Sons, Magnus himself. Kasper_Hawser
I prefer the HH Wolves better than the Ragnar series. Prospero Burns really defines the culture and feel of the wolves, I loved before the book now even more. You also find them in Scars, besides the ones already mentioned. Much as I like Prospero Burns as well, I wouldn't recommend it for first reading. Dan Abnett has a unique way of portraying the story which may be hit or miss with you, meaning he likes to mix up the beginning, middle and ending. Also contrary to popular opinion, it is not told from the perspective of a Space Wolf. It is told from the perspective of an "OUTSIDER" who was allowed to observe the Space Wolves during the events leading to that climatic battle. You may consider this a spoiler, but I feel I have to warn you otherwise you might feel "conned" by the novel. That being said, its probably the best available portrayal of Russ. Oh yeah, forgot about Betrayer by ADB. The book is mainly Word Bearers, Ultramarines and World Eaters, buta pparently there was a MAJOR Skirmish between Russ and Angron once. Another insight to the complexity of the Wolves misunderstood primarch. Durfast Spiritwolf
Apparently Wolves are also mentioned in the Scars novels from HH, but only in passing and are not major characters. They actually feature somewhat more than that, especially Bjorn :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284800-space-wolves-literature/#findComment-3554945 Share on other sites
