recon0321
Just like the title says... What culture and style of names do the death guard use? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284879-death-guard-culture-influence/ Share on other sites
Barabbas Sogalon
Not so sure about culture, but I've used Turkish/Balkan/Hebrew-inspired names for the Barbarus born in my army. Think some of the names in Flight of the Eisenstein have this sound to them. Kol Saresk
According to Betrayal, the Death guard took in a great deal of recruits from a region called "Albia", which points to an unspecified amount of territory centered on Albion(aka Great Britain. DuskRaider
To me, Barbarus would have a Urals-like culture. Pavel Araghast
To me, Barbarus would have a Urals-like culture. I don't know why, just how I imagine it. Or they are from Albany(Albia). DuskRaider
Well, Albany does = New Scotland. And the Terran Death Guard are so cool that they can only be of Scottish descent (perhaps Irish). And the Terran Death Guard are so cool that they can only be of Scottish descent (perhaps Irish). So that works too :tu: I thought Albany was named after the duke of Albany, aka The future James II of England/VII of Scots. However, the origin of Albia is not so clear cut. The best bet seems to cover the British Isles, especially given associations between the Dusk Raiders and the Ironsides of Old Albia - very Cromwellian sounding to my ears :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284879-death-guard-culture-influence/#findComment-3553482 Share on other sites

Conn Eremon
Popularly, Albion is used to refer to the island of Great Britain. Albia is more than likely to reference that. Â But Terra does not quite look like Earth. For one thing, no natural oceans. The island of Albia and the continent of Europa might be indistinguishable and overlap. Durfast Spiritwolf
We don't mention Cromwell. I guess we'd best leave that one there as I'm not big into speculating about what my great, great, great, great, great, great grandad may have done in a campaign against some else's great, great, well you know where this one is going, especially given how thoroughly ethnically mixed the people of the British Isles (and neighbouring countries) are. ;) Â They only pure bred Scots/Irish always seem to live elsewhere lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284879-death-guard-culture-influence/#findComment-3553493 Share on other sites

Kais Klip
As the lads say both the Death Guard and Iron Hands have roots in Albia/British isles, hence their names tend to be closely associated with the names worn by the Iceni or whatever posterity calls the harp playing smurf-wannabes nowadays. Going by that rote I'd give Barbarus-born Death Guard-ians names that would suit Galic or Franc types; same land mass but with enough difference to separate the terran-born from the other filth : ) Â - some guy that played Rome Total War and frequently gets lost on Wikipedia while on the trasher, so don't jump on me with your history Ph.Ds please. Conn Eremon
It says in both Betrayal and Massacre that Albia was used as a source of recruits for many Legions, but most notably Death Guard. Â The primary source for the Night Lords was the prison, but they were also one of those who took from Albia. Kol Saresk
Yeah, so far three different Legions have been named; The Death Guard, Night Lords and Iron Hands being the "notable three" while the Death Guard in particular drew the largest portion of recruits.
