Ahazra Redth firebase suggestions

I'm thinking of building a Mantis Warriors - White Scars combined force, using Ahazra Redth as the Warlord to take advantage of his Interceptor warlord trait. I was thinking of putting him with a Devastator squad with Flakk missles, so that they could also act as my anti-air. Do people think that would be better, or either mix with or use a full set of lascannons instead?

I feel pretty confident of my force's ability to deal with hordes and elite units,  it is fliers and somewhat tanks that I am not 100% confident of.

It's not a bad idea, the MLs can use Frag and Krak as well as Flakk. The only issue I can see is that you could just as easily take an ADL/Quadgun. Better yet you could combine the two if you wanted so things like lascannons can intercept deepstrikers and the quadgun can intercept enemy air.

If you want to make use of intercept, you either need a huge amount of shots or skyfire. I do not see how 5 lascanon snapshot (ever with prescience) will deal with fliers. There's a chance of just below 1/3 that a prescienced lascanon will hit without skyfire. To make best use of his warlors trait I'd suggest putting him into a unit that already has skyfire. Only flak devs come to mind. Maybe also Centurions with Grav Canons? I mean they get a lot of shots, add prescience and skyfire would not matter so much.. if not for the 24'' range. In the end, aren't you better of with multipurpose units like Stormraven or with stuff like quad gun and get your divination librarians instead? Or are there that many Heldrakes in your meta?

I think Nusquam was considering the lazcannons for killing off deep-striking units and drop pods rather than flyers, but even if he wasn't, the odds of damaging a helldrake are roughly even with snap firing krak missiles and with full bs flak missiles (dumb, but thems how the rules work).  Laz cannons would actually do more snap firing at a helldrake than flak missiles would with the full ballistics skill.  Really, a quad gun is a steal compared with flak devs for use against air units.

But the thought of seeing a sternguard squad eat it with 4 lazcannon and who knows how many bolter shots before they can shoot their combi weapons.  That's just great.

Indeed.  Combine both for the best effect.

I used him in a game with allied IF devastator squad with 4 plasma cannons, as I knew my opponents Space Wolves are heavy on Rhino Chassis, Drop pods, power armour and terminators, but has no flyers or heavy armour vehicles. Redth had the 'no cover saves' power as his secondary. I had first turn.

A terminator squad (turn 1) and a PA Wolf Guard squad (turn 2) died before even firing a shot after podding in and a Wolf Scout squad that infiltrated behind them died as soon as they appeared (turn 3), as well as a Long Fang Squad behind an ADL (turn 1)

But I think in a more general list I'd use IF devs with 4 flakk missiles, should be able to deal with most things.

For picking off Deep Strike units, I'd always go Plasma Cannons. Tank busting, Lascannons (with an Icarus ADL), maybe even this vs flyers.

Go big with redth and put him in a grav centurion squad, delete any unit that has the audacity to land near him!

While I'm not as against them as some of the members of this board, i don't like the 40k centurion models, so I'm not that interested. Plus This will be my only squad on foot, and having them slow and purposeful just seems wrong.

I am considering Excubitor's plasma cannon suggestion. the thought of greeting arrivals with 4 blasts is tempting...
