Wargear concepts (fluff, not in-game)

Just wanted to see what you all thought of these ideas, and how viable they could be in the fluff.

  • Volkite Ammunition: An attempt to regain arcane Imperial technology from the time of the Horus Heresy and before. The uranium core is replaced with a seal containing two highly-volatile thermal chemicals, which are separated until penetration of the target has been made. Once this is done, the seal breaks, causing the two chemicals to mix, which results in a devastating release of thermal energy. The end result is that the target will burn from the inside-out, and soon after, explode.
  • Railbolt Ammunition: An Imperial attempt to reverse-engineer and miniaturize the railgun weapons used by the Tau. The rounds have a slightly smaller caliber than normal ammunition, and the standard charge is replaced with a tiny capacitor. Once fired, this capacitor releases electromagnetic energy on a delayed fuse, causing the round to fire out at speeds above supersonic.

@Volkite Ammunition: Isn't that more ore less the same thing that the standard bolter shell does? It penetrates and explodes. Volkite weapons from 30k are some kind of energy beam weapon.

@Railbolt: "above supersonic" does not make much sense. Supersonic already means above the speed of sound, which isn't that fast (~3.4*102 m/s) anyways. If you want so say it is really fast, make it close to the speed of light (~3*108 m/s).

I don't think railguns accelerate projectiles to quite that speed. However, there is a term called "hypersonic", which means "highly supersonic". It is used in reference to speeds that are normally Mach 5 and above and is used in relation to railguns. So instead of "speeds above supersonic", maybe something like "accelerates to hypersonic speeds of above Mach 5."

Volkite ammunition is a good idea except that Volkite weapons are energy based IIRC. So instead it could be switched to "Volkite power source".
