Help with a banner

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of building an army using C:DA. One of the units I'm building is a terminator command squad and that command squad will have a counts as "Banner of Fortitude".

That is where my problem begins. I am not an artistic soul, so imagery and symbols are not my strong suit.

I really want to paint something on that banner, something that conveys the "fortitude" idea of the counts as banner. And again there is problem. My chapter is an Iron Hands successor and I'm using the DA book for them simple because I refuse to buy the new C:SM.

So long story short, I need ideas for a banner that convey "fortitude", endurance etc, with a light touch of Iron Hands. My chapter often refer to themselves as "children of the gorgon" and the chapter badge is a gorgon's skull.

So any ideas would be very much appreciated.

What immediately popped into my head is the gorgon's skull surrounded by a circular unbroken chain in the center of the banner, with a crenelated wall below across the bottom of the banner and in both of the upper corners a kite shield with the gauntleted "iron hand" in the center of both shields.

I had thought of using chain but hadn't been able to decide how. Very promising ideas there Bryan.

The majority of DA banners have the 'angel of death' (that hodded figure with wings and sword. So I would use that gentleman. As for fortitude? DA often reference old Caliban and themselves have knightly aesthetics. So you can either go with that angel of death holding that shield en face or from the side (if going with the side option I woukd still depict the shield as if seen it from the front as it increases the effect, also have lightning bounce of it). Alternatively, show Caliban during the bombardment during the HH. Lightning and explosions rip the planet apart but the Fortress Monastery stands tall behind the void shields. This would be the centerpiece as the void shield shows one of the strongest and iconic shields in DA history and as such is a good example of fortitude. I am not sure which one I like best.

Some good ideas, save for the fact that my chapter is a "counts as" C:DA.

They are Iron Hands successors so angel imagery doesn't really fit.

My bad, skipped over the IH bit. OKAY! Here are some ideas:

Something involving an anvil would be interesting. Maybe an anvil amidst a field of fire/chaos? To show that the anvil endures any heat and punishment.

Or hey, get into that 'Flesh is weak' thingy and add an IH Marine with augmentations standing in the middle surrounded by obscured and charred figures succumbing to the punishment around them inflicted by fire, lightning or whatever can be drawn easily.

Or maybe an unmoving gunline of IH standing unmoving in front of any given calamity and resembles an iron wall?

Or get one of those Land Behemoths the IH drive around Medusa, they are pretty tough to endure that climate.

Hell, IH got a lot of stuff indicating fortitude since the Chapter is build on making themselves stronger all the time by means of steel.

I read your post while I was visiting family over the holidays. Since I've been "planning to do(™)" some Iron Hands myself (i.e. have some minis lying around in a box) it kinda gave me an idea and I had to keep myself busy somehow. So I started doodling, stealing bits from here and there (Snakehead from one of the Urban Mammoth factions, hammer design from the FW Ferrus Manus model etc).

I was going add a banner that said Manu Forte (lat. "with strong hand") and some other stuff. Now that I'm home again, I don't know if i'm gonna go back to it. But I could send you a higher res if you care for it.

Anyway, thanks for keeping me occupied, I guess. teehee.gif
