Zincite
I'm steadily growing to like the new Librarian model. I do like his head, but I've always had a thing for helmeted Librarians. Now, his head is separate to the body, and I've found pictures of him with different bare heads. None for helmeted heads though. Has anybody tried this out? It looks like it might be a tight fit. Barabbas Sogalon
Gave my Librarian a helmet and had to cut away the top of the psychic hood. No more trouble than that. Got an image of him in my thread if you want to see for yourself. Zincite
Yeee, that looks awesome. I didn't think of cutting off the middle prong. Ta very much, that's a very adequate confirmation! JeffTibbetts
You're right that it's a tight fit… The new bare heads (his and the veteran boxes from what I can tell) are much lower profile. They have shorter necks, basically. The helmeted heads don't fit in there at all. I was playing around, and by shaving down the neck bits you can cram one in, but it looks odd since the helmet shouldn't really sit down that far. Frankly, if they have a helmet, the hood bits should really be built into the helmet itself, no? I think Barrabas was right on to snip it. I think I'm going to stick with the bare head on mine because I like that hood pretty well. VoteForPedro
Looking at the model you could possibly snip the hood, fit a helmet, and then with some greenstuff/ plasticard extend the hood over the helmet though that might look a little silly. The Grey Knight Strike Squad box might be a good one to check for replacement hoods too. Aside from that though I love the head in the Librarian pack, it's bursting with emotion! When I first started my Crimson Fists several years back I avoided helmetless heads, mainly because they were more time consuming to paint. I've since been adding some new models and loving the helmetless heads, especially in the new Tac Squad and Sternguard boxes as they add so much 'badass' character to the models and make my Crimson Fists look more battle worn. Also, mohawks are awesome. Edit: edited for typos yo. As for the helmet, it's certainly feasible that the Psychic hood could be built into it. I get the impression that Psychic hoods aren't a very standardized technology. Lexicaniums are shown not to wear the full interface, with merely a few wires trailing from their skull or helmet. But I'd prefer to keep to the classic imagery as much as possible. @VoteForPedro I plan to order some bits. I'll see if I can get a Grey Knight hood cheaply. Cheers! I do like bare faces. Screaming bald men are integral to 40K's imagery! I like to use them on my miniatures to add expression to a pose, or to give characters extra character. I think it's that that makes me like helmeted Librarians so much. Because you rarely see them, it makes you stop and look at the miniature. Think 'oh, that's unusual'. And then you start noticing the details. Draw the eye to something interesting. Then have your main course in the subdued detail. JeffTibbetts
That wiki link shows the dude on the far left with the wires plugged right into his helmet, no hood. Of course I think that was back when hoods were a piece of optional war gear, maybe? Either way, I agree it doesn't look very cool without a hood. Zincite
Aye. He's a Lexecanium. There were two of those Librarian miniatures for each rank. One was sculpted with a helmet, one sculpted with a bare head. Lexecaniums had those sets of wires trailing from the side of their heads. Codiciers had the psychic hoods we know and love. Epistolaries had slightly larger hoods, with the middle prong elevated and decorated with an eagle or horned skull (there's one here). Tigurius had the most fancy-pants hood of all, with flashing lights. If we applied that to the current range, this dude is a Lexecanium, this chap is a Codicier and the plastic kit is an Epistolary. You've got me thinking, though. Rune Priests use psychic hoods, right? Well, some of them have hoods, but this fellow doesn't have anything at all. And while Mephiston has the most absurdly large hood in existence, Ezekial has nothing more than a few wires. And he's a Chief/Master of Librarians. So it seems like you're allowed a lot of leeway with what you have or don't have in your hood. Disruptor_fe404
I bought the Grey Knight Strike Squad specifically so I could have 5 plastic power-armoured psychic hoods that can fit helmets under them. Zincite
It'd be tempting to just use the Grey Knight hoods and be done with it, but I'd like a distinctive pose for my character and I'm not confident I could pull it off with mere kitbashing. Plus, I'm in a convertin' mood at the moment. Disruptor_fe404
The Grey Knight hoods are just alternative backplates, so you can pretty much use them wherever you want. Hyaenidae
I tried out an Astral Claw Librarian, prior to my 10,000 year tactical withdrawl into 30k. Used a GK hood, with a vox head. I thought it turned out ok. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285064-new-plastic-librarian-and-heads/#findComment-3560769 Share on other sites
