When was the Laeran Campaign?

Some guy in this post http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222664-horus-heresy-timeline/ seems to have went through the trouble of assigning each event a timeframe, which would place the Laer Campaign after the Ullanor Crusade.

But i see no way of proving him wrong or right save of re-reading all the novels again myself, so make of this what you will.

I always thought it was after Ullanor, that was like the last great glorious victory for the Imperium before everyone started off in their own separate directions again and things started falling apart.

I think in all of the early Heresy books Ullanor is referred to in the past tense.

No, Demus is right it is after Ullanor. I ask because in Scars Fukgrim says something about how he heard the White Scars "do strange things to their ships". And the Khan replies "I hear you do strange things to your warriors". And that was at Ullanor. But if Ullanor was before Laer and Laer was when Fulgrim authorized the experiments, then either that was a continuity blunder or it is in reference to something else.

Ah I see, I would hope this far into the series that it was in reference to something else and not another continuity issue.

I'm trying to think of a cultural difference between both legions that the Khan could be making reference too, perhaps he means that Fulgrim encourages his troops to embrace art and a more refined way of life as opposed to his legion who (I admit to not knowing a great deal about the Scars) are more nomadic and therefore possibly have less regard for such things?

Basically calling them a bunch of dandies lol.

I don't know.

According to Laurie Goulding:

The canonical answer:

This comment was made at Ullanor, before Fabius or Fulgrim *actually* started modifying their III Legion warriors. It was a brotherly jibe by Jaghatai Khan, implying (tastefully) that Fulgrim "loved all his sons equally"...

It's not a mistake. It's a nudge-nudge-wink-wink joke. Enjoy it for what it is!

Honestly, I don't get the joke. So I guess no enjoyment for me.

Original post can be found HERE.

The joke is Khan's calling Fulgrim gay. Saying that he did gay stuff with his gay Marines because he's gay. And that's funny. Because it's Fulgrim. Who likes art and stuff. Which is apparently something only gay people do. AH HA HA HA!

Meanwhile, Angron sails the stars making his sons take off everything but loinclothes and chain themselves to each other, while Sanguinus and his sons like to drink each others's bodily fluids, but...Fulgrim. Gay. Funny!

LAUGH WITH ME, KOL!

............... I guess my mind doesn't work that way. I can rationalize Curze and the Night Lords killing and torturing for kicks but I can't get a gay joke. Go figure.

Yeah...frankly that just sounds like a screw up to me. And a poor effort to deflect attention from it.

Or someone that is that guy that is always making jokes that only he laughs at.

And why does actually need to be *actually*. Looks fishy to me. But hey I'm just a redneck from a small town with a four letter name that is composed of two syllables that are the same. So...

I thought it was the khan implying he had heard tht the third were genetically altering their marines, but the author hadn't checked the timeline to see when it had happened.

Scars implies that nikeae happened very soon after ullanor, since mortarion has mentioned that plans have been set in motion and he expects to see the khan there.

From what I remember of Fulgrim, so need to read it again

It went

Lateran campaign.

Helping out ferrusNuke a few eldar worlds

Hit ferrus

Istvaan

If the khan was I plying something of Fulgrim I missed it to.

It also doesn't seem to be the sort of comment the khan would make. He didn't have a close relationship with his brother primarchs and that isn't the sort of jest you make to some one you don't know well.

The only possible conclusion if that the third had started looking into improving their marines much earlier than we thought, but only really started in earnest after seeing what the laer were capable of and what the third might be able to try.

Perhaps they had already experimented with some form of gene therapy.

Says the guy who's legion has chaplains doing "dark stuff" behind locked doors :P

All in jest of course.

And I prefer loincloth and chains. It allows better male bonding moments.

See, this is why the Heresy failed, to many odd shenanigans going on within the traitor legions :p

Dangit, depthcharge!

Just because Erebus was up to some sort of shenanigans while training the young iniates...shenanigans that caused Argel Tal to try and kill him...and he and Last Angel refer to one another as "Master" and "My son"...uhhhmmm...look over there! A distraction!

I honestly didn't think that quote in Scars meant anything like that, or that the author was mistaken. I assumed it was revealing that there were precursors to the days of Fabius Bile's experiments.

Obviously not to the same extent, considering how at first any changes to the Emperor's work was seen as adding imperfection to perfection, but something that could create the environment and mindset in which someone like Fabius Bile could grow and thrive.

That was what I assumed the Khan was referring to.

Well, see the gay joke provides nothing. It doesn't provide anything useful at all to the continuity or the characters and story.

But what I put forth, and what you had wondered as well, does.

So this marks a point where I look at GW, and by extension all of its myriad parts, stick my fingers in my ears and go "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!"

Wait....you stopped doing that since the end of 5th edition?

*cough* heretic *cough cough*
