The best legion (please don't hurt me...) *Hides*

Wow, that is the single most subjective question about anything Warhammer related...

But seeing as how you asked...

The Blood Angels because their primarch gave his life in righteous battle

The Imperial Fists because they were the rock against which the traitor waves broke

The Raven Guard because Corax nearly killed Lorgar

The Salamanders because it ain't easy being green

The Dark Angels because loyalty is it's own reward

The White Scars because sometimes you just have the need for speed

The Iron Hands because the flesh is weak

The Ultramarines because...Logistics

This isn't going to end well laugh.png

The Legion I enjoy reading about most is the Wolves, because they are less official than the others if that makes sense? More warriors than soldiers.

The Luna Wolves pre-Heresy are cool as well, at least they were in the one and a half novels they appeared in.

I like the Alphas as well because they're so different from the other Legions, you know any story they're involved in is going to have a lot of twists and turns.

Angel Exterminatus made me a big fan of the Iron Warriors and Perturabo, Iron Within brothers!

In real life as a history buff the Mongol Empire is my favourite topic/period, so when I get around to reading Scars maybe this'll translate to making me a WS fanboy? Plus the fact it has SW and AL too cool.png

Not sure if this counts as a Legion but Garro and his band of merry men deserve a mention. FOTE is one of the best of the series imo and Garro is just awesome.

In conclusion, SW first by a tiny fraction, the others closely behind, and any that I haven't mentioned are meh. The WS are up in the air till I read Scars.

My personal top choices are

1.Imperial fists. The most loyal of all legions, loyalty was never questioned. They kept the imperium alive by making terra unable to be taken by the traitors. They were chosen by the emperor himself to be his praetorians.

2. Blood angels, Sanguinius was the most perfect of the primarchs, loyal, strong of arm and soul. He proved his loyalty by siding with his father over his closest brother.... Think of that for a minute, your brother who has always had your back, always looked to you for counsel and thought you should have been chosen as warmaster, yet he sided with his aloof father out of loyalty. He cast aside his bond of brotherhood to preserve his fathers vision!

3. Alpha legion, they were willing to do the unthinkable to preserve the galaxy.... Or were they............ Everywhere!

::::whispers::::: everywhere.....

4. Ultramarines, Gulliman was playing the long game, long term planning for the unthinkable what if terra had fallen? Yet he had the humility to not appoint himself as the regent of the imperium.

Loaded question but here's my opinion.

Corax because he didn't rush into battle, he planned everything out and at the same time each squad had independence if they saw that they could have a better impact somewhere else. Also Corax was a humanitarian.

Alpha Legion because they allied with Chaos in order to destroy Chaos and preserve the galaxy.

Guilliman because he held the imperium together and yet stepped aside when it came time to choose a leader.

The Imperial Fists, for their unshakable loyalty and straightforward demeanour.

The Space Wolves, for their willingness to do whatever must be done, even the unthinkable, to achieve the Emperor's goals.

The Iron Hands, for their cold fury, tenacity, and unyielding hatred.

The Raven Guard, because their silence is your death.

The White Scars, because they laugh when they kill, and for the savage poetry they weave in battle.

The Dark Angels, because, though they are reserved and secretive, mistrusted by their brothers in arms, they are loyal even when friendless.

The Blood Angels, for their scars.

The Ultramarines, for their ability to look past the war, and dream of an Astartes' place in a peaceful, victorious Imperium.

As for the rest, I either feel "meh" about them (Salamanders), I actively hate them (most of the traitor legions), or I might be okay with some of them and hate the rest (Alpha Legion).

The space wolves. Just ask them.

Sure if you ask them they will say the Space Wolves but they will still know deep down that the best Legion is the Ultramarines.

If not for the Horus Heresy the 13th would have grown to eclipse all other Legions.

If not for the Horus Heresy the 13th would have grown to eclipse all other Legions.

The 13th was nearly twice again as large as the next largest legions how much bigger would they need to be.

Magnus and his legion without a doubt.

Magnus befriended many of his brothers and had little enemies. He was a thinker, a philosopher, and a most loyal son.

The thousand sons were supposed to usher in the new man, fully psychically aware, and craving knowledge.

Imagine a 13th Legion in the 500k range and still growing.  Eventually they would have reached a point that they made all other Legions laughable.

Magnus befriended many of his brothers and had little enemies. He was a thinker, a philosopher, and a most loyal son.

Say what? Mortarion hated his guts, and while Leman Russ wasn't as frothing at the mouth eager to burn him at the stake as the Death King Mortarion wasn't the one actively spying on the XV.

As far as loyalty goes...

+Magnus, stop fiddling around with the Warp. I mean it.+

"Whatever you say, Dad. Quick, Ahriman! To the crystal cave! We must fiddle around with the Warp!"

Unification era: The Seventeenth Legion, Iconoclast. Entirely dedicated to the Imperial Truth, devastating at war, logical and reasonable to a fault. The perfect Legion, until their Primarch ruined them forever. Shame.

The Great Crusade: The Luna Wolves. They were the greatest, and chosen as such, for a damn reason. Nothing could stay their wrath. The galaxy truly could do nothing to stop them, besides tremble or beg for a peaceful compliance. The charisma of Horus, too, eased the thoughts of the conquered, and turned foes into allies.

The Heresy: Insane to choose. We don't have the full picture yet, and many Legions have been devastating in their own way. The Sons of Horus, though, still march on Terra, and are led by the Warmaster. This cannot be ignored.

The Scouring: Ultramarines, and their successors. Their wrath pushed the Imperium's foes over the edge into the mouth of Hell forever. They saved their brothers of the Fists, broke the Night Lords and Alpha Legion, burned Olympia and Colchis, and re-created the legions into the Codifications he personally designed. Logistics for the win.

I think Batman would beat up Wolverine. No problem.

Huh. I didn't know Curze and Russ ever fought.

OP, I don't know who you are, but when I find you, I will kill you.

It is not that subjective of a matter. The Space Marine Legions were created for the explicit purpose of conquering/liberating/re-uniting all the human worlds that had been lost during the Age of Strife. And the Legions were not equally successful at that task. It is very easy to, in no particular order, name the top five of the Legions. If it comes to the number one spot, it can be argued between two of them, due to sometimes seemingly contradictory claims in the lore.
