Forge lord question

Hail fraters

Just a quick question to make sure I understand the army list right. Is it legal for me to take a centurion, give him the forge lord consul, buy a cortex controller (hello me Castellax) and still give him the terminator armour options for the centurion? (I guess so as termi armour isn't prohibited like it I'd for Moritats etc but this seems a little off)

Additionally, if I can give him options from the tech marine option, does that mean I can upgrade his servo arm to a conversion Beamer? The idea of a relentless, 4+ invulnerable save chap walking around my backfield with a conversion Beamer seems awesome

Cheers

Dan

*looks at book...

Huh. Well. That's interesting. I see no reason you couldn't have a Cataphractii Forge Lord with a Conversion Beamer, Graviton Gun and Power weapon of choice... and even a Cyber Familiar (2+/3++ !!!).  Ouchy.

I say no reason, but I mean, probably no reason. It gets a bit fuzzy with the wording on the Terminator options; but it does say in the Forgemaster notes 'additional Techmarine wargear', so it looks like it's still doable. If pushing 200 points, lol.

Certainly can, they are a very flexible unit choice. Some of the Consuls are actually like that, you play around with them a fair bit, however the Forge Lord has the most variety. Keep in mind that if you give him the Cortex Controller you can then bring in TWO units of Thallax, one as Elite and one as Heavy Support.

Can you tell me how? (page quote) I'd love to do it...

so 200 points for a centurian with Battlesmith, 2+ save, 3+ inv save, rad grenades, cortex controller and a relentless conversion beamer?

Pretty pricey but I think I'm gonna give it a hot. I like small elite armies in general (not well suited to HH I'll admit!) so this seems like a good way to not have to paint another full squad!

Sorry I dont have the book on me but in Book 2 it allows a Legion army to field a single Thallax unit as a Heavy Support choice and then if you take a Forge Lord with a Cortex Controller you can take a Thallax unit as an Elite choice, or vice versa. Thus you can actually field two units of Thallax.

I will try and find the page numbers when I get home

I wrote FW about the whole Cortex Controller/Maniple thing a couple months back and their response was kind of confusing.

On page 265 of Massacre, it says that a Legion can take a single
automata cohort as an elites choice if one model in the army has a
Cortex Controller.  On page 192, where the option to take a Cortex
Controller on a Forge Lord is presented, it states that this unit of
Castellax/Thallax can only be taken as a Heavy Support choice, and that
they may not take Augment upgrades.  Which of these two is correct?

Thank you for your email. In regards to the cortex controller both of
these rules are correct, the rule on page 192 only applies when a Forge
Lord has the Cortex Controller.

And just to make sure I've got it right, a single squad of battle
automata may be taken as a heavy support choice (with no Augment
upgrades) in an army that includes a Forge Lord with a Cortex
Controller.  However, if a character who is not a Forge Lord is taken
and they have a Cortex Controller in their wargear (such as Autek Mor),
then they may take said squad with any desired augment upgrades as an
elites choices.  And an army using the Head of the Gorgon Rite of War
can take as many Maniples as desired as elites choices, regardless of
the presence of a Cortex Controller.  Right?

If a Forge Lord takes a Cortex controller he can take a battle automata with no upgrades as a Heavy Support choice.

The Iron Hands Iron Scions, as part of the rite of War  - Head of the Gorgon,  allows Battle Automata to be taken with upgrades in elite choices, so this counts for any Characters with this Rite of War.

Autek Mor is both an Iron Lord and Iron Father, so get to take a Battle Automata with no upgrades as a Heavy Support Choice with his Cortex controller.

As far as I can tell, to take Maniples as elites requires that the Cortex Controller be taken by someone who is not a Forge Lord, which is currently impossible.  Or done through the IH RoW.

ETA: Or maybe a Forge Lord lets you take them as Elites and HQ, and there will later be a choice for a non-forge lord to take a Cortex Controller that would then mean you can only take a maniple as elites.

Its the latter, the Forge Lord w/ Cortex unlocks both the Elite and Heavy, As Forge World said in their response, Autek Mor can currently be used and will only unlock the Elite choice.

Except that is the exact opposite of what they said.

Autek Mor is both an Iron Lord and Iron Father, so get to take a Battle Automata with no upgrades as a Heavy Support Choice with his Cortex controller.

Mostly the legion praetor in termi armor (obviously)

Antennae from the Icarus lascannon sprue that comes with the bastion kit

Servo skull from a grey knight

The Beamer is the heavy conversion Beamer weapon arm from the contemptor dreadnought cut back so only the 'barrel' and 'muzzle' are left mounted on the grave warden heavy flamer arm with the nozzles cut off. The flamer nozzles were then stuck on the shoulder pad to make the additional vents/power packs/gubbinz
