Emperor's Scourge
So indomitable pattern was around then? Same with Tartaros?Yes. Which I dislike a lot. Not only is having Indomitus mark terminator armor around in 30k like having Mk 7 armor during the crusade, its such an ugly suit too. Tartoros and Cataphractii are where its at! Wish they would release Saturnine armor so we'd know what that looked like. Aside from these ugly bastards who existed very briefly (fortunately), technically, fluff-wise the Indomitus Terminator armor was always the only kind of Terminator armor for like 20 years, dating back to these guys in the 1989 release of Space Hulk. Mk VII armor was, on the other hand, always described as being an end of/post-Heresy invention. The others are recent inventions to sell you resin shinies you didn't already have. It's kinda like the FW fluff retcon to make Mk IV armor the best version, lol. "You already own a ton of those others. You need these ones now." This might be a 'chicken or egg' type of argument. MK IV are, and have been since the initial Badab release, FW's best selling power armor models. Hell, going all the way back to the Red Scorpions kit. Was it "the best PA" back that far? It'd kind of make sense for them to follow where their customers lead them by making it the best. Hyaenidae
Every company wants your money. Every company re-invents themselves at some point, so you give them more of your money. Every. Damn. Company. As long as Forgeworld keeps making stuff that makes my happy-gland twitch, I'll keep throwing money at them. depthcharge12
See, rule of cool does make it a better suit of armor. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285337-power-armor-mk-stats/page/2/#findComment-3563655 Share on other sites
Marshal Rohr
I like how some units have subtle rules to show the idea of the armor type choice. Breachers having mark 3 and void hardened for example. KBA
I was surprised to see no differing rules between the different marks of armor when the Betrayal book came out. HH is mostly marine vs marine, so giving pros and cons to different armor marks would help give some flavor to the mostly 3+ save battles going on. Keep every mark's 3+ with minor differences would be fun IMO. I'd also like to see the different types of bolters have their own pros and cons. We read about them being slightly different. I'd like the rules reflected :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285337-power-armor-mk-stats/page/2/#findComment-3563706 Share on other sites
Kol Saresk
Well, Betrayal seems like a true baseline book and I have the impression that the idea isn't that we restrict ourselves to just one or two books but draw from as many as we desire. So it possible that we might start to see variations in the different Mks as we go on. Don't take my word for it though as this is all speculation. It'd kind of make sense for them to follow where their customers lead them by making it the best. I dunno. You'd have to find some cached version of the site to know for sure how the product description was written. It definitely capitalizes on the "intended as the pinnacle of power armour technology, and containing many advanced systems" without mentioning that VI and VII were supposed to be advancements of Mk IV to make it lighter, more durable and easier to repair, lol, and leaving out the fact that what Mk IV was, was the next-generation system intended to replace MKII/III, not the be-all, end-all variant of power armor. Seems fairly irrelevant though. But it was definitely to push the sales of Mk IV power armor in conjunction with the Red Scorpions release in IA9 by driving product and fluff wording that described Mk IV as being something awesome, and the capability to make it something rare and special. I work in marketing, lol. I can spot the "Look, new shiny!" when it's there.
