henrywalker
So i'm starting a space wolf army and i need some help writing a list. the problem i have is that i already have an awesome Njal conversion built and painted which i want to have as my HQ and i have about 20 terminators built and painted which i would also like to include. Problem with that is that terminator armies tend to need logan to make them troops. you guys have any ideas about a list that will work using those models? I was thinking around 2K and i quite like thunderwolves too Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285366-non-logan-terminator-list/ Share on other sites
Max_Dammit
Going TDA and TWC is putting a lot of focus on elite type troops, I doubt it would win you much games. 20 TDA's is do-able in a 2000 pt list as you can take more Wolfguard that that in in Foc. I wouldn't know how to build a list for that as i never used TDA in large numbers. DanPesci
Id probably look at drop pods. You need something to get your terminators across the table, and if youre wanting to include TWC as well, theres no way you'll have the points for land raiders. Saying that, im not sure how well njal/his powers would work in pods (theres another thread on here already discussing this)..but you could always sub him in as a rune priest. With using TDA and TWC, youre going to have very few scoring units, which can be an issue in the current version (5 out of 6 missions use objectives)...but thats not to say you cant still write a fun list. Id probably go for hammer + anvil tactics, use an alpha strike of drop pod terminators in the first turn, with at least 2 squads of TWC charging up as fast as possible (ideally they need to be in combat turn 2). Id try and put in a couple of squads of grey hunters for objective snatching too. rough idea... rune priest - TDA - 125 4 drop pods of terminators (keep em cheap, combiweapons and poweraxes/swords, maybe a heavy flamer in each squad) - 800-850pts 2 Squads of TWC (probs go for 4 in each squad, 1 SS, 1 TH) - 520 2 small squads of grey hunter in razorbacks - Use to snatch objectives/support your TWC - 250-300pts 1 squad of grey hunters, drop pod - but deploy drop pod empty - use these as a home objective sitter, the drop pod is just in there so you have 5 pods and can therefore drop 3 pods of terminators turn 1. - 200 pts that comes to roughly 2000pts. Pros - looks cool :) , fun to play, good first couple turn smashup, 2 units of TWC is always gonna look/hit hard. Cons - low number of bodies, no heavy support, no anti-flyer, may struggle against interceptor/gunline lists (ie tau!) if you're looking at competitve play, id most likely avoid this list, just too much concentration on elites (as max_dammit said), and not enough on our good cheap solid units (grey hunters, long fangs etc) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285366-non-logan-terminator-list/#findComment-3565284 Share on other sites
henrywalker
Wow thanks, i appreciate the effort. drop pods definitely seem to be the way to go. I think you're right though, no matter what i do i'm just going to have to accept that this is a non competitive list Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285366-non-logan-terminator-list/#findComment-3565289 Share on other sites
DanPesci
Doesnt mean it cant be a fun list though, maybe save it for your mates and leave it at home for tournaments ;) I dont play competetively so really like running list like this occasionaly just to see how they do... i really want to try and run a fenrisian wolf horde list at some point - but itll cost a small fortune to have that many doggies :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285366-non-logan-terminator-list/#findComment-3565301 Share on other sites
d@n
I use to run logan and loads of stock wolf guard termies with maybe a few combi weapons chain fists or heavy weapons thrown in some times. in pods in bigger games and foot slogging in smaller games. the advantage of wolf guard terminators is that there cheap and can take combi weapon. but once you put them in a pod and payed the logan tax then there not really cheap anymore and that's why loganwings are hard to play and not really competitive. Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
The best way to do that is to RUN LOGAN!! ...just saying. And drop pods are you friend. Investing all those points into elite packs is not only point intensive, but will continue to reduce the amount of models you have on the table. It's cool as all hell, and I'm all for that!! ;) Give a thought to finding room for some long fangs, they are still an amazing entry in the good ol' dex!!
